Here’s the video of when we went out that day with Dirt Nation. Phillips loops in calico by Eddies world.

 

My panties would be soiled driving over this stuff.
I guess I'm a bit long in the tooth for dealing with any snafu's that could occur in the field like this.

Believe it or not it wasn’t as sketchy as I thought good experienced off-roaders spotting, believing in your own driving ability, and -1 mudflap and we made it.

 

With good skid plates and spotters to tell you the path of least resistance, I can believe it. I just do not want to risk my daily-driver, so limit my adventures.

But I wish I was willing to risk some of these achievements ... sometimes I wonder why I bought a 17 MPG off-road vehicle and mainly drive it on-road.

Brother I was there and I had the same reaction

 

You bought that 17 MPG off-road vehicle for the same reasons most of us do:
Reliability, functionality, and if/when the sh*t hits the fan you will be able to GTFO of Dodge.

Any Sailors on TW???

I found the boating & fishing forum section, but all the unfortunate 'boats' on there are missing sails and masts... it was quite depressing!

I came across this very 'salty' looking Hermann Cat (a 'traditional' Cat rigged sailboat (Gaff rigged) such as were found in the vicinity of Cape Cod, MA. (a 'Catboat').

This was already in California, which is quite a rare sight. Managed to get it down to the right price, and so I could not help drive away with it...

The shoal draft, barn door rudder + centerboard will be great for my boys to sail in shallow Morro Bay and vicinity.

The cat rig allows impressive roominess in this 17' sailboat. It will be great to spend some nights at anchor in it!

** I guess It can also double as a travel trailer! - Maybe I just need an offroad suspension set-up for the trailer. (I would need to do something about the rudder...)

I have a few bits of hardware to sort out on the gaff rig and then we can toss it in the water to get her properly rigged and trimmed.

If anyone here has a gaff rigged boat, please reach out! - I've got a few rigging questions!

I've sailed gaff rigged boats before (-mostly in the Netherlands) but those were wooden spars. This has all aluminum spars.
