Pearl Pass is on my list to do. I'll be there in about 2 weeks coming from the Crested Butte side. How was it? Any sketchy areas? Debating on whether to take my 2 kids along (both under 2).

You'll be fine. We ran it from CB to Aspen. It gets super narrow as you approach the pass from the CB side, but I think some of that was me not being used to the width/length of the truck's hood (we normally 'wheel a two-door JK). The narrow part is only slightly off-camber in places. On the Aspen side it gets super rocky, but not difficult. I've read lots of stories about cut sidewalls on that side, so just be careful with tire placement.

Main drawback to Pearl is its length and location. I'd wanted to run Montezuma Basin too, but we got to the trailhead about 2:30 in the afternoon, and didn't want to run the trail back to camp in the dark. We actually ended-up returning to the CB side via pavement, which was a REALLY long drive.

    That’s not a drawback.

When you're from out of state and trying to maximize time on trails, it is.

First time with the truck, getting used to the systems before I start the big stuff (Couple trips planned in Nov.) Started with something really simple, Carnegie hills in Tracy after work. Had it all to myself at least.

I'm a forester that works for a contractor. We mostly do work for private timber companies, but we will occasionally do work for the Forest Service and Washington Department of Natural Resources.
