Thinking about getting my winch put in this weekend. Anyone know if you can just take the the few bolts on the bottom off, then slide the winch in and re-bolt the bumper on? or do you have to take the whole thing off?IMG_4847.jpg

I'm not sure how the bumper is mounted on your first gen, but on the 2nd gen, it is only 6 bolts. in my opinion, there is no room to "slide" a winch in, it's pretty thick and heavy, easiest thing to do is take off the bumper, bolt the winch down (4 bolts) and then reattach the bumper

On a second gen you can remove the grille and slide it in from the back. At least I was able to on mine seating a Warn M8000 with the control box removed.

I can't decide if I should go bumper or roof rack. Eric's work is so nice, that I need to make a decision if I want a bumper on by spring!

For the rock sliders. Do you recommend I buy Weldon or bolt on? I don't know the first thing about welding but I want to make sure what ever I get will hold the weight of the truck with my hi lift and all. Any recommendations between the two?

I think weld on are the strongest. I'm having a fab shop install mine once I get them. But I've heard that bolt ons are getting stronger and stronger.

I welded my Relentless sliders on. They will be stronger than bolt on types.

It should be easy for a shop to weld them on. Some people like bolt on in case they want to sell the truck and take them off. I'm keeping this truck and have no interest in "resale value/issues" so I'm not afraid of a welder.... :D

I would agree. Weld on is my preference, though we do offer no-drill bolt on for the 05-15's that are pretty stout. The bolt on requires more parts to be fabricated and a LOT of hardware so the price jumps a bit for them; roughly $180 increase IIRC. That cost difference will allow for the weld on guys to pay a shop to burn them on, and leave some beer/gas money left over.
