Huge difference ... Toyota predator step bars are listed on Amazon with a ship weight of 23 pounds total for both sides http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Toyota-PT925-35162-Predator-Tube/dp/B014V50PZO (a little bit cheaper here http://www.toyotaonlineparts.com/oe-toyota/pt92535162). I think I read somewhere that Mobtown's sliders with fill plates are something like 150 pounds total for both sides. The weight differs between brands of sliders. Some are built heavier than others.

Also, steps are fine for getting in/out of the truck but won't provide much (any???) protection for rock crawling ... lightweight material and bolted to the body vs. sliders that are heavy duty and bolted or welded to the frame. I have the predators in the link listed above and I love them, but I have no doubt they would fold up if they ever hit any rocks and would probably tear up the body of the truck too.

It all depends on what you want. I figure I will upgrade to sliders sometime in the future, but for now steps are fine for me. I don't plan on thrashing a new truck on the rocks until some of the newness wears off. :D

Little kids, pets or whatever might put their foot through the predator style bolt on steps, not so much with the Nerf bars, running boards or sliders with fill plates.

Sliders are more expensive and heavier.

Sliders can act as steps but Nerf bars, running boards and steps will never act like sliders.

    Pick your poison

My wife is only 5'4" and complains that she has a hard time getting in my truck so I used it as an excuse to order some Iron Cross HD steps for the truck. I am still deployed and away from home and they aren't due to be sipped until the end of July but I got them for $376 on sale from autoanything so I couldn't turn down that deal.

Hey guys maybe you could help me pick out some bars. I really like those nfab bars but don't think they are for me. I would like something that could protect my doors, and comes out past the crown of the door. Plus the nfab ones are a little pricey for me. As far as I understand they won't protect my doors cause they are just steps right? The ones I am looking at are the toyota knock offs. They are a good price on Amazon and I think TAC makes them.

Tac Double cab 4" running boards with nerf steps

I would also like to see them on an inferno in black and chrome. Any thoughts or suggestions? Anyone have the toyota ones or those ones of amazon and how do you like them?

    @gsxxr : is yours retractable?

I've been thinking of AMP Research powerstep XL. Prohibitively expensive though.

@DesertTaco4x4 : what is the TSS edition? I've never heard of that. Recently I heard someone here mention XP edition? Are these custom made new trucks bought from elsewhere and not dealerships? I saw no mention of such trim's on the Toyota model's website for tacoma, and hence asking.

I haven't heard of tss edition either. Those are nice though. How big are they? I can't decide on 4", 5", or 6" bars. I want big enough to protect my doors but not so big that they are in the way when I get out of the truck.

I think they're simply a black version of the OEM bars. I've seen a bunch of them around here on '14s '15s. Gulf States Toyota probably buys them in bulk and slaps them on in the port (where the TSS and Texas editions are born). I think those are about $300ish through AutoAnything.

Anybody have thoughts on 4" 5" or 6" bars?

On your wheels and tires, are you currently running spacers, or is that just a massive offset?

Now get rid of the chrome rear bumper end caps and go with black ... beyond me why Toyota wouldn't put black caps on bumper to match black wheels etc

They look great. How do you like them? Do they hit your legs when you get out? I am debating on the 5 or 6 inch ones, but the ones I want are almost those exactly but in all black. I'm looking at the lunds too. I really want nfabs but by the time I get them to Canada and the exchange they are over $500! Plus I don't think the nfabs will offer as much protection from rock kick ups as those ones will.

I love them ! No my legs do not hit them when i get out. I looked at several nerf bars and had a budget of under $250 and these (IMO) were the best ones. I got them online for around $230 shipped via Summit Racing online .. they were shipped direct from Lund and i had them in 5-days after ordering

That's awesome. How far out from the crown of your doors do they stick out? Is it worth the 6 inch in your opinion or would they be over kill? I want them to come just pay the crown to protect the doors, but mostly for rocks kicked up by my front tires. My rear fender flares are already getting chipped!
