I also didn't get into riding until 6 years ago at age 50. Wish I had done it sooner.

Nice bikes those Yamahas...very reliable too. Always wanted to take one of those 1100's for a ride.

I had no idea this thread existed! I can definitely chime in!

I've been riding motorcycles since I was 18 - self-taught with an addiction to adrenaline. My first motorcycle was a Suzuki 650 SV that I loved, which quickly resulting in learning the art of "wrecklessness". Once I moved to Salt Lake City and realized every driver here is out to kill you, I decided to trade in the bullet bike for a cruiser. In steps my (current) 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan 900. I immediately swapped out the pipes for some Cobra's for added loudness among a few other modifications, including custom matte black paint.

The summer of 2015, an ex and I had planned an epic road trip to Canada on our bikes but after we fell apart, I said "You know what, F*** it, I'm still going". So when the time came, I packed my bags, saddled up and solo'd across four states and up across the border to explore Vancouver and to Whistler. Hands down, this one of the greatest trips of my life. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I absolutely love owning a set of two wheels. This, plus one of Utah's windy canyon roads and a good playlist in your ears is the greatest therapy of all time.

Harley is a good way to go, most comfortable bike I have found. Not a speed demon so it works well for me and the torque is awesome.

09 RoadKing, dropped 2.25", 16" apes, Vance and Hines pipes with tuner, 21" spoked front wheel and some Avon whitewalls. Seriously comfortable...

    Great story and pics!

I had a 2011 Vulcan 900 Classic as my first bike. I wish I still had it, it was a great bike, but I got the 'I need a bigger bike' bug and traded it for a Vulcan 1700...big mistake! Anyway, I'm glad I have the Honda now.

Why a mistake with the 1700? I've debated upgraded my bike countless times. I'd probably step up into an 1100, if I can ever commit to it.

I have so far been pleased with the 1100, not really ideal for two up riding although you could do it. But I took the ride from Albuquerque to Scottsdale last year for Arizona Bike Week and the 1100 held it's own, cruises at 80mph no problem and handled the twisty roads going through Payson, AZ just fine.

By big mistake I meant the 1700 was not a smooth running bike at all like the 900 was. The transmission was very clunky and it had fuel injection issues. Had it at the shop a couple times, never fixed right etc...I traded it for the Honda, glad I did. I also have a Yamaha TW200, it's a neat little trail bike with balloon tires, fun

I agree riding has been one of the most liberating things I have found in this world so far, easiest way to calm my anger and my soul. That is also a very valuable lesson, it is literally us riders up against other drivers or CAGES. I love long road trips too, not too much riding in El Paso although I do enjoy the endless strips of highway. I hope to plan a larger roadtrip soon.

I honestly am so torn on what to get next because I love all motorcycles. The 1100 just feels small to me now, if anything I will keep it chop it and bore it out, mini apes etc.

I really want to step up to a solid bagger. My buddy has a Victory Magum and that SOB sounds like an LS1 engine, deep and throaty. However my Uncle got me into motorcycles ans Harleys. Before he passed he rode a 2011 Harley Street Glide (pictured).

Dammit. I had myself talked out of a dual sport. So do I turn my Sporty into a scrambler like I did with my CB750, or buy a DR200 or TW200? Decisions, decisions...

I have the TW200. It’s a fun bike on the trails but if speed is your thing you will be disappointed. I think I got it up to a very buzzy 60 mph a few times but it’s mainly a trail bike that likes to putt. The puffy tires makes it a simple fun way to navigate rough terrain. Kind of reminds me of a two-wheeled quad. The low 30 inch seat height is nice for my 5’ 8” frame. Also, they are easy to work on, carbureted, and fun to mod. You can find them used on Craigslist in the low $2000 range if you’re patient.

Yeah, I've been looking at them off and on for about 5 years. Unfortunately, there's nowhere around me where you can ride bikes or quads off-road legally. Dipshits have managed to get public lands shut down.
