On 2 wheels is the best way to see the country. Where have you been so far and what's still on the must-see list?

Great first bike...if you’re a newer rider...just because Kawi makes a z600 and z900 doesn’t mean you’ll ever need one. That Z400 can give you more than you’ll ever realistically need. The bigger bikes might get you cool points but also will get you in trouble in many different ways. Enjoy.

We've been riding together for 45 years. A lot of that time we were raising kids and working way too much so our long trips have only been in the last 6-7 years. So far we've been Tucson to Panama City Beach to South Padre Island to Tucson for 4600 miles. Tucson to South Padre Island and back 2500 miles twice. Last August we rode up to Colorado and back and toured the Rockies for 2 weeks. Tucson to Mississippi to SPI to Tucson for 3600 miles. I'm planning to retire in August and then we're going to get serious about our trips. LOL I think our next trip will be north to Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, etc. Our plan is to see all 48 without trailering the bike.

Nice to see someone properly riding!

I've ridden solo almost everywhere from Maine to Key West to Oregon, with my longest single trip being 30 days spent riding the 2 lane roads across the country with stops at several national parks and random scenic spots along the way. At each stop I'd talk to the locals and get ideas of good roads that weren't on my maps (I didn't bring a GPS, smartphone, or computer) and they always steered me right. It's the best way to see everything and really experience the landscape.

I'm on the opposite schedule as you. Got my riding in early and recently having kids changed priorities. It's been a few years since I sold my bike, and my next adventures will likely be boat-related so the whole family can share the experiences.

Enjoy retirement and ride safe!

Went for some canyon carving at Canyon Lake, Az. Second time up here. First was years ago on my F3 with a buddy, taking it easy. Pushed her nearly to the limit this time being solo, and I'm in love! Didnt realize how much of a workout it is when you really push it. My legs more than anything. But I am out of shape, heh, and still getting back into the flow of riding her daily and using muscles I havent used in years. Lol.

I've been riding that road for 30 years!! LOL
The recent repave is really nice. 2 Years ago it was almost unrideable except on my motard because it was so bumpy and rutted out.

Nice. Another biker said that about the road when I got there. Yeah it was pretty sweet. I used to go there all the time as a kid with my dad fishing on his bass boat when I lived in aj. Now I'm 1.5hr away. But I'd say it's worth it. How's tortilla flats? I wanted to keep going and see how that was but it was getting late.

The road past Tortilla Flats is still in pretty good shape all the way up to the dirt. That is actually my favorite part to ride, less boats and RV's to deal with on that section.

Ah 10-4!! Yeah going on a Tuesday seemed to help me with that fact as well. Freeeee reign all the way up. Well, one car up for like a minute before the major twisties, then they pulled over and let me pass. Got stuck behind a convoy on the way back tho.. Seems like most people have an understanding there too and will let bikers pass when they can so that's cool. One thing I miss about AJ. LOTS of bikers and all friendly people. Looking forward to going back then and running tortilla too!

Matt, how are you liking the fz09?? I wanna get a second (newer) bike and I've been watching a lot of youtube vids and whatnot on it. And it looks really fun. And hella cheap. At least compared to a newer r1 that im also considering.

It's amazing. Much cheaper than a comparable typical sport bike, insane amounts of torque and power, and in my opinion comfortable to ride. It would not be a good bike on long highway kind of trips just due to wind buffeting but I don't use it for that anyway so all good.
