Um, Mtek, hate to tell you this but 848's ALL have wet clutch... So unless you converted it, its a wet clutch...

ALso, there is no differance in a dry or wet clutch pull. My ducati dry clutches are actually EASIER than any of my past Japanese wet clutches because ducati uses a hydrolic clutch instead of a cable clutch...

Ducati is not going away from a dry clutch. The use a wet clutch on the 848 and other "Entry" level bikes because of ease of maint and its cheaper... i.e. entry level bikes...

My bad, that was a typo error on my part. I know the 848 has a wet. Maybe it is just me, but my 848 is easier than the dry clutch's I have had in the past. Perhaps my Hyper 1100s just strengthed my grip though so it seems an easier pull : ). One thing for sure, it certainly is not as grabby.

Ducati is moving away from teh dry clutch, the '12 Streetfighter 1198, the new Multistradas, 1198 Diavel, and the all new 1199 Pinagale have wet clutches...these are top tier Ducs. I am kind of sad about it actually, it is a Duc tradition.

By the way, great collection. Your 998 is timeless and I would love to have the Corsa. Heck, I would even settle for a Corsa fuel tank, my 848 has aluminum envy.

    i have to say something......

all you guys who ride japanese literbikes are fucking insane......like clinically insane......like tightrope-without-a-net-insane

proof: So Bike's, Blues, and BBQ is here this weekend and I went and demo'd a 2012 Yamaha R1. Now, until today, the bike's I had ridden consisted of a softail, sportsters, vtx's, my old v-star 650, and my buell xb9r, and some dirtbikes (as far as I can remember). Granted, none of those are performance motorcycles, but many of them had decent acceleration (or so I thought).
Immediately, I noticed how "rev-happy" the bike was.....throttle response was off the charts. For the 1st half of the ride, I don't think I shifted out of 1st gear.....the revs just kept going, and going, and going. When we got to the straights and the ride-leader "got on it", so did I.......and wow! Now, let me just say, I weigh a scant 225 on low-gravity days, so I am adding significant W bringing down the power/weight ratio. But Fuck, I swear I lifted the front tire off the ground every time I shifted (totally on accident, I hate doing wheelies, honestly) and the thing about ripped my head off my neck. Rolling wheelies?!?! are you fucking kidding me? So.....when we got to the interstate.....I tucked forward and really got on it.......VRRRRROOOOOOOOM, shift, VRRRROOOOOOOOM, shift, VRRRROOOOOO---------holy fuck I'm going over 90 in 3rd gear!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!-------throttle down.............well, that was a fast 4 seconds. The whole time I was thinking: "The motoGP guys have bikes that are faster, lighter, lighter riders, and they are under full acceleration..............OMG, FUCK THAT! I think I would pass out doing what they do." After I got back to the Yamaha tent, I thought: "Before I bought my Buell, I had a chance to get a CBR1000RR and I passed." In hind sight, THANK GOD! because I wouldn't be here typing this post today if I had. Seriously, those bikes are.........I'm at a loss for words.......stupid? ridiculous? death machines? chariots of the gods that most gods would be scared to ride? no good descriptive word comes to mind.

So, to summarize.......you guys that ride japanese literbikes are lunatics who lack the basic human instinct of self-preservation.......may God have mercy on your souls as you fly past the pearly gates at 160mph in a flaming ball of metal pieces and flesh.

    That is all.

Its the fastest around a track, but top speed unaltered from the factory is the 2009 MV Agusta F4 312RR. The 312 denotes the top speed of it, 312 kph which is just under 194 mph. With a good tune, pipes, and rider the bike will easily best that. The ZX and Hyabusa are limited to 186 mph and the S1000R top speed is 305 kph (189.5 mph)

    Hence my signature...

You're right though to an extent, they are overkill for a streetbike. On the track though they're kinda magical and make you respect them. Coming off of a turn and pinning the throttle on a straight feels like the hand of God is pushing you back in the seat until 130+. Coming out of a turn leaving a 50ft. "darky" from the apex to the exit really puts a smile on your face though :D

Lol I love the prejudgement that we all ride like this. This comment is just as horse shit as someone saying all cruiser owners are tattoo, beer drinking slobs. (which some are) But I am one with a harley and my father too. Idiots ride like that, Idiots ride stupid on any motorcycle. If you think there is a difference between 160 on a sportbike and 110 on a cruiser then you dont really know. I have self-preservtion and ride like it.

28003 I write this in general to everyone who thinks this not aimed just at you. Im just not a fan of being judge for having different taste then the rest. I own a 05 cbr 1000rr and she screams just fine a 60 mph.

My '06 screams in first gear at 70mph...literally

I wouldn't hate on him too much,I think most was posted in sarcasm, he just wasn't used to the absolute power corruption that a 1000cc I4 sportbike combined with a non-restrained right wrist can have over some people. Strangely enough, after a while you get kinda used to the freight train like torque and set your hair on fire horsepower these things can produce. Go figure, 150+RWHP vs. a 420lb (roughly) wet weight...to someone not used to it it's like trying to control a race-horse on a dog-leash.

:D My 1198 roars at 70 in first gear; sounds a little like a very, very large dirt bike. 156RWHP & 411lbs wet, roughly.

Literbikes are crazy-fast; it's why I bought my Duc. Brings a smile to my face every time I ride it, and I ride it to work most days.

    I waited until I was 50 before I got my first liter-bike. I have much more self-restraint in my 50's than I did in my 20's. :D
