You are going to LOVE that setup! I'm holding off on the valves and hope to get the Traxxion AK 20 set for the bike next year. That will be just about it for this ride! :D

Desmo Duey, I see you're in Boston and like to race so I'm going to go out on a limb and ask if you know of a decent suspension shop in the area? I'm a member on a motorcycle forum and want a better suspension setup for my bike but they're not even remotely helpful over there. If you know of a local shop, that'd be great. My bike is a Katana 750, it won't see a track but I love the backroad twisties and need something a little better! :)

If you order the Penske rear shock from Traxxion Dynamics, they set it up for you, your bike, your weight and your riding style. It may be a bit pricey but you won't have to buy it again. The 8983 is the best road shock they build and you can get it in single, dual or triple adjustable and with a piggyback or remote reservoir. When they ship it, you almost never have to make adjustments. This is why I went with them. As for the forks, they can also do those for you too and in many different levels.

Thanks! I'll check them out. I think my forks need a lot more work than the rear shock at the moment (they both need a revamp, but the forks really suck!).

One last question, what should I be expecting to pay for a good sport touring suspension or entry level track suspension? I can do all the work myself so it'd be parts only but I am clueless as to what suspension components cost for sport bikes  (I did look at that Traxxion place and I see prices from $100 - $$$$$)

It all depends on what you want/expect. I'm expecting great touring comfort and less feedback on bumps but also great performance in the twisties. With Lee's recommendations, I'm expecting to spend about $2k total. I spent $822 for the Penske dual and for now, I'm putting in the Racetech springs for my weight ($110.00) and riding style. However, I intend to save for the Traxxion Ak 20 cartridges so there goes the other $1k. In the end, I expect to have one heck of a smooth ride both in and out of the turns along with the ability to do track days without change or worries. This is the Sport touring/entry level track setup for me.

BTW, since I'm not all that far away from Boston, and if you need tools or space to work, you're welcome to come up and use my garage/tools in NH. I have riders from all over come and work on their bikes here. I'm also building my own no-mar tire changer. ;)

Thanks man, I appreciate it! I might have to take you up on that when I tear into the suspension. I have a garage but I've never messed with front forks before other than to change seals on a dirt bike.

It sounds a lot like the suspension kits for the Tacoma, you've got everywhere from your cheaper bolt on OME kits to the high end King kits.

    In Boston, you have http://www.computrackboston.com/

They do everything from suspension upgrades to geometry optimization. These guys seem to be very popular with the club racers.

Here's my general opinion on upgrading suspension, in order:

#1 - get the correct spring rates for your forks and shock
#2 - set up your forks and shocks for proper sag (easy to do with a friend)
#3 - set up your rebound & compression damping (might need professional assistance, most good bike shops that have any club racing involvement should have basic suspension settings services)

With the above, you should notice the handling improvements. If you want to take it to the next level:

Upgrading rebound and compression cartridges in stock forks (Traxxion, RaceTech) with valving suited to your application. Also getting an aftermarket shock setup for your application with proper spring rates and valving (Penske, Ohlins, Elka).

+1 for GMD. Peter Kates knows what he's doing with that stuff. I've only had him do minor tweaks for me while at the track but nothing extensive. I personally don't care for the guy as a person but must give him credit for his knowledge and skills.

With that said I really don't know anyone else in this general area to be totally honest with you but chat up with Dan Kyle (http://www.shop.kyleusa.com/), he's one of the nicest guys you'll ever come across and he's a genius when it comes to suspension, sadly he's located no where near us but I've had the pleasure of meeting and talking to him a few times in the past. He can at least sell you parts and give you tons of help with anything you might need.

Great info, thanks guys! I'll have to get ahold of those guys for some fork help. With my bike, upgrading to an R6 rear shock seems to be a popular solution for the rear. Let the games begin :D
