Been working on relocating my license plate, been pulled over too many times for the typical sport bike "license plate tuck" kits. So I decided to go chopper style. A lot of people don't like the look of it but I think it looks pretty good if done right.

Here is a metal bracket I fabbed up real quick. This is an 07 CBR600RR.

Cheapo LED lights from my local motorcycle dealer.

Mock up of what it looked like on the bike, I figure.. ehh it's ok.

Doing some splicing with #18 wire I had laying around, had to home make some butt splices out of 1/16" steel tubing I had from a previous project.

Splices done, heat shrink applied, wrapped in plastic conduit. All splices were double wrapped with scotch 33 electrical tape to prevent arcing for the most part.

Finished product side by side comparison

These were in another motorcycle thread that gets bumped once a year or so, I figure I'd throw them in here with the other enthusiasts.

And you just have to tease me with a pic of my dream bike that I can't afford. That thing is sweet! I've been looking at Sv650's....something nekkid, with V-twin.

The Monster would be the best Ducati to start off with if that is the direction on where you want to go. I currently have a Hyper as well as the Panigale but if I had one bike and wanted to use it for commuting I would probably get the Monster. They Hyper is very similar but the Monster I feel would be the best all around bike. Monster are not expensive at all. I love my Ducatis. I don't think I would get another bike. You get random people just waving to you when you ride one or stopping you when they get a chance. I never got that on my Yamaha. But Japanese bikes are nice and the new Ninja 650 looks pretty sweet. Getting a bike will depend on what you plan to do. Unless you have issues like I have and get one for each occasion.

Haha, I see similar issues in my future. I definitely like the cool factor of the Ducatis, but then that small practical voice in my head says to get something that is cheaper to maintain. Thanks for the input...I keep going back and forth.
MOstly I will be using my bike for commuting with a few mountain joy rides mixed in.

Have you owned a bike before?

The Japanese bikes would be your best bet. Unless you want to go with an aggressive style bike I would stick with the

Ninja 650 or Yamaha FZ6R. They as a sport feel but just not totally sport.

In my situation...I would rather ride the Hyper over the Panigale 80% of the time. Unless I want to do a track day and canyon runs then I would choose the Panigale.

I used to own a Yamaha V-star 650. I've also ridden a couple of R6's but with me being 6'2" it wasn't very comfortable. I've been looking at the FZ6's too but I really like the sound of a v-twin which is steering me toward the SV650. Oh well, I'm sure I'll be happy with whatever I get, I'm just ready to get back on a bike.

Got it. I love the sound of the twins. My friend has a stock 2012 GSX-R750 and when he fired it up I didn't even know it was on. He jumped when I turned on the Panigale for the first time with stock pipes. I am getting a full system today on it.

I am short so I am at the opposite side of the spectrum. The Panigale is narrow which I like compared to the Inline 4 Japanese bikes which were just too wide and didn't feel right.

E-Taco, I used to think as you, " but then that small practical voice in my head says to get something that is cheaper to maintain", Japanese bikes are pretty much bullet proof. But once I got my first taste of the Europeans, there was no looking back. They all have increased their scheduled maintenance intervals, and all of them have great online communities to help you sort through any issues. The big bonus is, the euro dealers usually allow test rides. Go ride some bikes, if I were to get a naked bike Triumph's 675 Street Triple is amazing little bike, the triple motor is the best of both the V-Twins and I-4's, and I have 27k on my 1050 Triple motor with 2 12k valve checks (both had valve clearances in spec) and one electric issue (regular/rectifiers are in a bad location and burn up). Then there is the "soul" factor. Sometimes it's not enough to go ride a solid bike, sometimes you need something more, more visceral, more stirring. This is the "x" factor you pay for. Enough rambling, go out and test bike bikes.

I agree with you completely. For me it is hard to look back. Both of your bikes are nice. I had considered the RSV4 Factory but I just didn't fit it. The Street Trimple is another nice bikes as well. The Daytona 675 R is a beast. You get Ohlins on a supersport!

Thanks for the advice...and nice bikes!!! Speaking of Aprilia, I also really like the looks of the Shiver 750, but they aren't very easy to find and I'm looking used.
I'm not in a huge hurry, so i guess I just need to get off my ass and start doing some test rides.

Yeah, the Street Triple is a good looking bike and I hear nothing but good things about those. Dang it!!! Now I have even more choices to consider.

I love the look and sound of the triples, but with all of the blowups i've heard about, i'll steer well clear of them.

there was some discussion on it earlier in this thread. I have some buddies that frequent track days and have seen numerous 675's blow up. I'll see if I can find it
