It could be a lose connection but due to the age my guess is the speaker is just dying. Found the manual for your speakers and you can use the crossovers is you want. You are right that it rolls in at 1.5k vs most which is in the 3k range. A good tweeter won't have any issues with it.

Are you familiar with the Audio Frog 6x9 mids? Those looked nice. Would they work well as a replacement?

Did you happen to find an RMS rating on the Infinity Beta 6 speakers?

Audio Frog makes awesome products. I'd have to see which ones you are looking at but anything should really work with the crossover. I don't think I looked at the RMS for the Infinity speakers and I didn't save the manual I had.

    Hey all,

    Well,

After months of thinking and drawing pictures of what I wanted, I finally designed and built my platform for the rear of my 2011 Tacoma Access Cab. I posted this to the 'Dog Platform' thread, because that is where I got the idea, but I thought that since I added speakers it might be a good idea to post the construction pics here too incase someone could use some ideas for their own project.

I pulled out the useless jump seats and was able to get some longer bolts and utilize two of the factory jump seat mounts to anchor my platform to. The bolts are M8-1.25 and are about 3/4" longer than the factory ones. It worked well to utilize those mounts, as the platform is well anchored and does not move around.

I used 5/8" plywood from Home Depot for the construction. I built the platform in my grandfather's old cabinet shop and it was nice to have the proper tools for the job.

I incorporated two MTX 6x9 speakers in sealed boxes that now run off the back (formally unused) channels of my JL Audio 75x4 amplifier.

I bolted the boxes to the front and side panels of the platform with carriage bolts and also used some wood glue to make sure the boxes were tight against the plywood. I used two corner brackets below the boxes to help secure the basic framework before the top was installed. The boxes are 5.5 inches deep and the front and side walls of the platform are 6 inches, so there is a nice space underneath for the wires to plug into the push connectors at the rear of each speaker box.

I cut an access hatch for the Toyota jack and tools on the passenger side and kept the plywood solid on the driver's side where the subwoofer sits.

I used 3M Super 90 spray adhesive plus a staple gun to secure the carpet to the plywood. I found out that I'm a better carpenter than a carpet layer! Fortunately the flaws are only noticeable on the back side, so they will never be seen.

All in all this project took three full days; about 24 total hours of work. I think it came out pretty well.
I built a small shelf over the subwoofer with some of the leftover material and used 2.5" corner brackets to hold it to the back of the sub box. Maybe someday this would be a good place to incorporate an Audio Control EQS parametric EQ, which is something that I've had my eye on for a while.

The 6x9s sound really nice and flesh out the system well. I had to adjust the gains on the amp a bit because rear fill should never call attention to itself over and above the front sound stage, but should just round out the sound to make a nice blend. They do that well. The problem I had before was that there was a 'hole-in-the-middle effect' because the mids and tweeters are up front and the sub is in the back. Now there is a nice mix of sound throughout the truck.

I crossed the 6x9s over at 75k with a 12db slope, using the onboard crossover on the JL Audio four channel amp. I did notice that the sub sounds tighter now that it is sitting on a plywood platform. I haven't done any critical listening since installing the carpet this weekend, but it did sound better with the bare plywood. Hopefully it will sound as good with the carpet overlay. (The carpet looks blue in some pics but it is in fact 'Home Depot Sky Grey'. I think sometimes the iPhone camera gets fooled on color.

Here are some pics of the project:IMG_0624.jpgIMG_0626.jpgIMG_0630.jpgIMG_0631.jpgIMG_0632.jpgIMG_0637-1.jpgIMG_0651.jpgIMG_0656.jpgIMG_0666.jpgIMG_0667.jpg

I just bought a 2013 TRD Off-road. I'm not happy with the screen or the sound.
I can't even see the screen during the day.
I don't like the tiny back up screen in the rearview mirror.
    It has no navigation.
The sound system sounded better in my 2006.
I would really like to upgrade it with the premium unit that comes in a 2013 Limited.
    Is that possible?
    Has anyone done something similar?
    Where could I find one?

Alot of good ideas in this thread (and forum in general). I'm definitely in the market for upgraded head unit. My 2014 Entune non-nav stock radio is total garbage. I would randomly have trouble connecting my phone via bluetooth. Most of the time, it would connect ok, other times it would never connect or lose connection.

Then I got a smart watch...and woah...bluetooth no longer works. My phone (Note 8) will connect but audio is constantly cuts in and out and the "Phone disconnected" popup shows up every 10-15 seconds. If I turn my watch off before I start the truck and keep it off, it'll work ok. And even before this, I had random crashes once or twice a week.

Definitely considering an Android Auto head unit...but one that can integrate steering controls and backup camera.

Oh, and I don't seem to have the same problem in my wife's 2013 Avalon. So I'm guessing it's the radio.

    Just gave Hank some boom.

4 Polk Audio 8" subs with an Orion amp.

Also upgraded the deck to a Sony xav-ax100

    Looks and sounds spectacular.

I found the problem. The capacitors on the passive crossovers needed to be resoldered. They sound a lot better now! Almost like when the speakers were new. It cost me $75 at the Car Audio Center for diagnosis and repair but it was money well spent, seeing how I didn't have to replace the front speaker components.

I also had that Alpine ilx-f309 ordered until I saw it did not come with built in navigation. I know you can get places with google maps and waze and such but I wanted it for when I don't have a signal on my phone. I went with this https://www.amazon.com/Dasaita-Rota...xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=
I get everything I wanted in the Alpine and then some. It also comes with wireless carplay built into it although they don’t advertise it. I am able to run dual bluetooth functions on it at the same time like wireless carplay and OBD Fusion together. It has a similar look but seems to have a lot more functionality to it.

Just did a test fit of the new Sony 9" AVX-AX8000... fits perfectly and was able to get it flush against the dash so it doesn't stick out like the Alpine Halo9.

Still have to get it straightened out a bit and complete the wiring, will post some photos once done tomorrow. Will require some custom work to mount flush like this against the dash trim bezel... if you want it sticking out more- no custom work would be required.

    Will update here:

Given the way my driveway is with my carport these are the best I can get you from the sides right now. Yes this works flawlessly with Iphone, I have the iphone xs max with latest updates and 0 issues. The head unit is almost the same as alpines halo just a lot less with a lot more options.
