This was originally a $500 set when sold by LEGO. I surely didn't have the cash and didn't buy it.

Fast forward a number of years and I was searching a lesser known auction site and found this set on it - with box. No idea if it had all the parts (though the weight was listed at 22 lbs which was correct).I bid and won at around $1,500 (It was my 10 year wedding anniversary gift since I didn't get a diamond band gift).

It showed up and I did the inventory and found to be missing about 10 pcs worth a whopping $5. It also included the manual which is worth about $400-$500 alone and box which is pretty good.

They sell for $2000 - $3000 used and >$4000 new if you can find one.

 

There is rumor that a new UCS Falcon will be released. But those rumors have been around for quite a while. I love Lego but couldn't fathom paying that much for a set. There have been people have bricklinked the parts and built their own that way.

 

Wiah I could buy 2 sets of everything. 1 set to build and 1 set to keep in mint condition to retire on!!

 

Was definitely a concern when I bought mine, but knowing LEGO it is VERY rare for them to re-release an identical set (example such as the Metroliner set 4558 / 10001). I felt comfortable with the gamble. Most of the BL'd UCS Falcom sets omit the 2x grey riggings on the back and the large satellite dish as they are several hundred dollars each, let alone other parts.
