Just grabbed a few of the holiday themed sets for the boy.

    Santa's Workshop #10245
    Winter Toy Shop # 10249
    Winter Holiday Train #10254

    Which came with the free...
    Christmas Build Up #40222

I also grabbed a couple city sets to lay back for him.

    Detective's Office #10246
    Corner Deli #31050

And scored a couple retired sets too.

    Car and Caravan #4435
    Airport #3182

Having a heart to heart with myself as to when I'm going to give my LEGO collection to the boy. I've collected over two million pieces and as a typical neat freak I've got them all sorted by color and then size. The only assembled kits and custom creations are from my 9v train days, but they are all put away as well. It's hard to let go of many rare and prized parts and assembled train stuff knowing that as a the kid and tinkerer that he is, most of it will be torn down once the handover happens.

Just hold on to them for a while longer. Buy him a few sets for him to explore Lego. Then when the time is right you can share the collection. Your son could very well be an AFOL too.

Plus I need to get that holiday train.

Been buying him sets from all over their product line and he really digs them all. Builds most of them with minimal to no help and really enjoys playing with them.

Here is an older picture from a while ago of about a quarter of it in storage.

Mine's 8 - will be 9 later this month. He's allowed to play with all my old stuff from when I was a kid. Even the classic space sets, but with the understanding that he's not to dismantle them. :D

In the end they are simply just toys. Sounds like @HomerTaco has the right idea. You can teach him the "right" way to play with them and show him how much it means to you. Maybe then he'll respect them as much as you do.

Yeah, that's the same rule we have right now. But being smart and a tinkerer like his old man I know that he's going to start to break stuff down to figure out how it went together. Luckily I have digital copies of all the set guides from when I was a kid until now so whatever set it is, it can go back together. My stress comes from all of the custom 9v train stuff that I had to hit up Bricklink to get the bulk pieces for. I was never very good with L-Draw so I don't have any solid custom set inventories or assembly plans. Hopefully I 'll get a chance to reinstall it all again soon and go back at it.

I kinda blew his mind when I whipped out the old idea books from back in the day and some of them still had all of their stickers in them.

So I picked up a few more packs of the Disney CMF packs. I got 6 that I didn't have, Alice, Buzz Lightyear, Peter Pan, Mickey, Minnie and the 3 eyed alien guy. So I'm missing 5 for the set.

If you remotely like Disney you should get some. I mainly got them for my wife, but I wanted Aladdin and the Genie for myself.

So I went back and was able to find 4 of the 5 figures I needed to finish the Disney cmf set. I just need Donald Duck. I'm pretty happy I was able to get the set nearly.
