Update: Doesn't seem to matter how I drive my OR, I never get a tank average better than 17.5. Today I drove from Tulsa to OKC (100 Miles) unloaded with a slight headwind and got about 17 on the way there (80 MPH). I loaded up about 1000lbs of batteries and computer equipment in the bed and got almost 16 on the way back driving 70MPH.

Results for me are in, 19MPG mixed. Kind of surprised given how throttle happy I am. I'm going to go this next tank trying to drive for fuel economy and see what I get.

It's all in the acceleration from what I'm seeing.

I love the 4 banger, it's got plenty of power. It accelerates pretty nicely in 5th going 60+. Plus when you pop the hood there is a lot of room for extracurricular mods.

Yeah, I need to work on it. The engine is so smooth and it pulls so well that it's hard for me to not give it some gas. We'll just chalk it up as "engine break in" for the time being. lol

I'm was getting mid 16's when really light on the throttle. Seems to get better mpg when actually reving it up a little.

Late to the party here but here I go.

2016 SR5 stock. About 75/25 highway/city driving. Avg about 21-22 MPG. I weigh about 250 and have maybe 50 lbs worth of roadside stuff and work relateds junk in the vehicle.

I keep the tac under 2k unless nessecary and stay aware of traffic so I don't accelerate or brake needleslly. I try to drive without brakes up until I begin to impact traffic around me.

I live and work in the the Triangle of NC so even my highway traffic can be pretty harsh at times.

I do keep my tires inflated to 40PSI. Door says 32 PSI and Tires are rated to 51PSI.

I drove a Yaris before this and the biggest thing to keep in mind is that needless acceleration. Don't have the link but the have done studies and found that across a 30 minutes drive those jack rabbit starts and stops only amount to about 75 seconds saved.

On an interesting note I have found across 2000 miles almost that the onboard mpg calculator does a pretty good job of being accurate. It is also generally within 1 mile of my calculated mpg which is good considering all of the variables at play.

First weekend I got it I drove an hour one way to pick up a free dryer and some friends. The next day I drove 3 hours across the state and then back for a total of 6 hours. Hell, the day after I bought it I drove an hour or so home just to show it off to the family and get a feel for it. I really like driving and was physically too wide for the Yaris so yea, sitting right below 2000 miles at I bought it September 30th. :D

I should be backing off the wild trips here soon but knowing me and the holidays I will be hitting the mountains which is another 3 hour drive to see the in-laws. I could drive the wife's Carolla but then I must ask why I bought a Tacoma ;)

What is bad is that nobody knows what drive train you have so your post doesn't mean much.

I have about 1800 Miles on my taco now. Found that while on the interstate, <75 I got approx 22-23mpg. When peeking over 75mph, it began to hunt for the right gear and would jump down out of OD taking the mpg down to 17avg

With that, a 5 mpg difference for only gaining 3-4 miles per hour I could get approx 100 more miles per tank while increasing my 380 mile trip by only 25mins.
