Sure it does, but bottom line is that doing your fuel consumption calculations manually is MUCH more accurate than relying on the computer.

So on a considerably cold day when gas takes up less space in your tank would that make your calculations more reliable? Truth is that there are far more variables to account for when doing by hand. The computer only gives you a mpg based on what your currently doing. With the current gas in the tank. There is no right or wrong method. Arguing about this is silly IMO. If people want to post both. That way they satisfy those that prefer either method. As for me and my 4x2 ACLB with tow I just got 23.1 on my last tank. Eco numbers only. No hand calc for that one. Was in a rush.

The short answer is: we do not know how accurate the truck's fuel measurement is. It does not need to be accurate; but, it does need to be precise.

The less short answer is: The ECU attempts to inject a known volume of fuel (based on pressure, injection duration, etc.). Something outside the ECU's control/sensors could change that volume (e.g. a partially clogged injector). Now, the volume is inaccurate; but, the ECU doesn't know that. What it does know is that the stoichiometric ratio is off (i.e. too much oxygen in exhaust). So, the ECU adds 'more' fuel to compensate; except, it is not really more fuel it is just how much it thought it used in the first place. This describes the accuracy/inaccuracy. The precision is how reproducible the injection volume is. The system needs to be capable of injecting almost exactly the same volume each cycle. It's just that it may not accurately know what that volume is. (From one who taught analytical chemistry labs.)

Taken from a cbsnews article I read.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), most cars’ fuel efficiency peaks at speeds from 35 to 60 miles per hour. After 60, though, fuel efficiency does drop significantly; the DOE says that every 5 miles per hour you drive above 60 is like paying an additional 24 cents per gallon for gas. That’s because at higher speeds your car encounters more wind resistance and the tires encounter more rolling resistance. The DOE estimates that constantly accelerating and decelerating can cut your mileage by as much as 33 percent. The fact is, easing up on jackrabbit starts and Indy-500-style highway maneuvers will save you more money than puttering along at 55.

Verified these numbers when I filled up. Mainly highway. 90 percent highway. Driving around 75mph. Drove back and forth along a flat section.

Only time will truly tell but I'm expecting it to continue to improve. Maybe 60/40 city/highway.

Would be nice for people to post there truck setup.

4x4 Sport, Cooper STT Pro tires. Mostly city and country roads, some trail riding.

Most of you must have two wheel dr and lots of highway miles??

well, went back to the coast and averaged 22.0 with about 95% being 55MPH highway (running ~60). Same trip a couple weeks ago was 20.9 going the interstate most of the way (70MPH). Probably would've been a lot higher this afternoon but I had to wind up the rubber bands quite a few times due to grandma and grandpa. 2016 DCSB TRD-OR 4x4 with Tonneau Cover.

First tank I got 24.4 mpg
Just did a 270 mile trip and avg. 25.6 mpg

90% of those miles are on flat desert highway, 65-80 mph, 2wd, 2.7, ECT off. I swear I don't drive like a grandpa either! :D

Same 115 mile, highway-only trip back from the coast that I got 22.5 on last week, only yielded 21.5 this week. Only difference? Using cruise control. Well that and a 40lb dog. Haven't really used cruise for an extended period until this trip and it might quite possibly be worse than my 2012. It's entirely too happy to downshift to 5th (~1800RPM @ 60MPH) and doesn't like to upshift back to 6th unless you're going downhill. Found myself a couple times having to turn cruise off to get it to go to 6th and then reset it. Even dropped down to 4th (~2300RPM @ 60MPH) on a couple occasions that were completely unnecessary. Didn't even use it on the last 15 miles since that's really the only hilly part of the route.
