@tincan Are you resetting the mileage with each tank? Does the readout that you are using include the mileage when you took delivery? Like others have suggested, you are going to need to get a few tanks in before you will have a feel for the mileage.

Not yet, I'm going to be watching this closely moving forward. I was actually okay with 16.9 around town on my first tank of gas. Yesterday, I filled up looking forward to this mornings little road trip. In my mind I expected 19-20...so the 16 was quite a shock. I know my 2014 OR took about 10K before it started to loosen up, but I was getting close to 20 on the same highway trip and about 18 when I bought it new.

I have to disagree with those who don't think this is constructive information. If anything, it will provide a baseline for what to expect during the break-in process.

There's a lot of factors in what you might be getting. As for me. I'm at about 300 miles into the engine. Driving a 4x2 AC SR5 with tow package. About 50/50 on my city and highway and according to the dash I'm avg 22.4. Also. This is with the ETC turned off. And I dont drive crazy and the speed limit on the interstate is 65-70 also while driving if you have the economy display on, look for the sweet spots as far as speed and rpms where the bar shoots up on the mpg and try and stay in that. Mix it up.

Your mileage should get better after the engine breaks itself in a bit, depending on Toyota's break in procedures at the factory. Give it a few thousand miles.

I drove home from the dealer, which was roughly 8 miles, and I only got like 14mpg. I had the ECT on and raced some piece of shit Ford Mustang in a 35mph zone. Like wtf...14mpg?

Piece of shit truck. I should be getting like 32mpg in a 1/4 mile run from the organic gluten-free vegan grocery to my high efficiency energy home....and destroy that mustang along the way.

    Toyota fuckin' sucks.

I test drove two DCSB 4x4 auto TRD Sports and they both averaged 18mpg. Then I test drove the same exact truck in an Off Road model and it averaged 14mpg. Thought that was weird.

So you reset the fuel computer before each test drive and drove the same route at the same speed?

Well, I'm not regretting it. Just about everything about this truck is better with only two exceptions so far - gas mileage and the tonneau cover. I'm hoping the gas mileage works itself out. I've never gone wrong with Toyota\Lexus. I paid 32.5 for my 2014 and got 29.5 15 months later (could have been more if I was patient)...how many cars can you do that?

As I mentioned, I use my truck for business so I write off about 80% of the miles. My personal cars are Toyota an Lexus and they all have over 100K miles on them.

No, I didn't reset fuel computer. Thought it reset at startup for each trip. Maybe that was it.

Mine is a DCSB 4x4 auto, Offroad.

I'm going to 'guess' that the OR not having the air dam makes a little difference.

From the thread in my signature:

2 days ago I drove home from the airport after resetting my average MPG. At one point the average MPG was around the mid 19’s. It dropped once I got off the freeway to low 18’s, then the next day running errands it was in the 17’s. I’ve also calculated it twice and also get around 17.

Today we took a day trip up to Sedona, AZ. It’s about a 4500ft elevation gain.

At the bottom of the hill my average MPG was just over 17. Once at the top it was down to 16. After a 4’ish mile loop on an offroad trail, Broken Arrow, it was just over 15. By the time I got home I was in the low 16’s and the tank average was 17. Seems odd the tank average was more. We filled up at the bottom of the hill before going to Sedona.

For almost the same price people will be able to get the diesel 4x4 colly that will easily get 30mpg (online reviewers have noted 34-36mpg in their real world testing). Add a leveling kit and remove that dumb airdam and you're golden. This is going to steal a lot of sales away from Toyota imo. Toyota will probably still lead overall but it will be a lot closer than people expected.

Where do you see the price for the diesel?

The diesel "option" isn't there yet because it is too new still. But when you add in certain diesel only options, it adds the entire diesel package price to the build sheet.

UPDATE: I reset the trip counter and drove around town today with ECT "ON" for about 25 miles just to see how much worse the fuel economy would be. To my surprise I got 'better' gas mileage. I averaged 18.9 with ECT on. This makes me suspect either they didn't account for the added weight of the OR or the transmission mapping is off on the OR's and the engine is constantly bogged down and forced to run at very low RPMs (I'm noticing 1200-1600 regularly with ECT off). Still too early to say with any certainty, but it's got me thinking.
