Post your '16 MPG

So I was close. That's not to bad I guess. My truck only has 650 miles on it. It still have plenty of break in time. I will be happy to hit 16mpg.

It's just now feels like it's starting to loosen up a little.

 

285s in an E rated tire are just hard on mileage.

Yes. I have a TRD Sport. At 64-65 on cruise I get 19.5-20.5. Which I very happy with. At 75-77mph I get 15-15.5mpg. I'm a little disappointed also. Not sure if anything can be done but if it had a 7th gear like the future of most modern manufacturers if you do the research, I'm sure we would be getting more than acceptable fuel economy. A little disappointed Toyota. Also, BTW, I worked as manager for Toypta for almost 15,years. 1 more gear would have been a home run! Other than that, the trick is very nice.

 

Did a 120 mi round trip today. The first leg, I got 18.7 averaging 70-80 Mph. On the way home, I got 21.7 averaging the same speed. Traffic was less so there was less stopping and going but, I'm happy I cracked 20 mpg with only 260 miles on the odo. The real test will be my commute to work Monday morning.

 

this is the best thing I've read on here in weeks! For months 2nd gen lovers have been hating on the 6th gear because it's one too many, and now you are complaining that it only has 6 gears!! I can't believe it. This quote is going in my sig now

 

Dont think anyone has said it was one too many?. Please show me where if so. I think the complaint or as you call it "hate" is on the AI and how the programming shift points are erratic.

 

Maybe my poor explanation. Having previously owned a 2nd Gen Tacoma and really liked it. Having owned a Raptor and really liked it. I traded my 2014 Range Rover Sport with V6 and found the engine and transmission combo just about perfect. It was only my opinion and possibly I'm wrong, I feel the shift points in the 16 Tacoma could have been better thought out. Also, paying close attention to the near future of the manufacturers, all new models and soon to be released models of all vehicles is a increase in gears to try and be compliant to CAFE fuel economy standards. That being said, I really like my new Tacoma. I went a little crazy possibly and did a lot of upgrades to tires, wheels, suspension, leather etc. Very cool truck. Just feel like with a little more thought or money spent the fuel economy could have been improved at modern hiway speeds.

qq, what had you changing vehicles so rapidly? How does the Taco stack up thus far? I really wanted a Raptor but decided on the Taco mainly because of size.

 

Well, I've been a GSM of several car dealerships for the last 15 years or so. You end up having the leisure of knowing a lot of owners and purchasing vehicles at the high line auctions. So, sometimes it's easy to buy and sell when opportunities arise truthfully, I owned 2 Raptors. A original access cab and a double cab. Ended up sending both of them to Dubai for pretty big money. The 14 Range Rover Sport V6 had an amazing engine / transmission set up. Lots of power and fuel economy was terrific for a AWD vehicle. I love the Tacoma but I think in large part that because of the upgrades. Suspension being the biggest. I have a couple good friends / acquatances thar run Ford dealers. So it's possible a year from now I'll be doing the new Raptor. It had a 10 SPEED transmission and it will have the ECOBEAST engine. They are great vehicles, however the fuel economy if you do a lot of city driving with the original 6.2 V8 was pretty bad. Obviously I new that when I bought it. One of Fords objectives on the new Raptor is fuel economy. I think many will be shocked to see how good it will be for such a massive off road truck when they come this fall. I live in Central Florida area (unfortunately) so if you need a vehicle let me know and I can hook you up. Having real connections in the car business can help with the pocket book and unnessassary drama. Scott

My dream truck is a raptor, my dad last year bought my dream truck and he is a businessman in the Chicago suburbs, I just painfully watch my dream truck being used as a kid hauler/mall crawler. I too am excited to see the new raptor. Welcome to the TW clan.

FWIW, I compared my trip meter distance vs. my Garmin GPS trip meter over the course of 94.99 GPS miles today and the truck trip meter was reading 2.52% low. That's more than any other vehicle I Have owned, 4 wheels or 2 and enough that I am going to account for that when hand calculating my tank mpg. 35psi stock tires. The computer mpg was already about .5mpg pessimistic per tank and now that difference will be even greater. I am putting in the computer mpg for each tank in the "notes" section on fuelly as well. Not sure why my fuelly badge is not updating in my posts. I am going to go back and increase my trip distance for each previous tank by 2.5%. Just put on another ~1500 miles over this long weekend.

 

what did I do?

 

So I was a dummy and took back my SR5 for a TRD OR. I have tried to be pretty consistent with posting mileage and as a summary I tended to get between 20-24 regularly, all depending on travel speed and such. Driving 80 mph to work on I-40 in heavy traffic gives 20mpg, traveling down a highway at 65mph stressing efficiency yields 25+. This was with a SR5 2WD.

I now have a TRD OR with a tonneau cover. I drove about 100 miles today across country roads, off roading and highways doing 80 mph. My combined across all that was about 20mpg. Since this is still the first tank I am not trusting it that much I will report back maybe next Sunday when I take a longer drive.
