Ok thanks! We are happy you like your 4 cylinder. Enjoy it, when you get it. And post your MPG when you drive it enough. We who have the V6 seem to enjoy the 278 horses.

Because companies can't fudge numbers on efficiency ratings to effect sales....

Worked well enough for what I need it for... hauling hunting gear, dogs and maybe a few buddies around. The 4 cylinder not going to get that done for me without winding the motor out to 6k RPMs to get up a 10% grade

I'm not angry at you guys. I apologize if that's how it sound. I'm just disappointed in toyota for jamming their newly efficient line of trucks down our throats like it's impressive. Im a marketing director for an automotive company. Their trick isn't anything new or surprising.

Not at all. I suppose these forums are for people to learn, communicate and express frustrations when they arise. I hope the I4 gets great gas mileage, but I don't think it will affect how I feel about my 18/23 V6 (Which I have gotten 25 MPG out of recently). Love it!

That's the part that has me frustrated. A minority of you guys are getting excellent mpg, and many (majority?) are pretty short of the 18/23 goal. The spread is extremely broad. It raises concerns for me about build quality of the motors. Yes i know temps, region, etc effect the numbers, but even some people in the same states experience dramatically different efficiency numbers. Why some people get 25 and others 14 with the same vehicle blows my mind. You're a lucky one for sure.

I've had weird mileage with my TRD OR RWD DCSB. Around town I've been getting 20-21 on average, but the on longer road trips where I averaged 70-80 mph for 200+ miles, I was lucky to average 18, sometimes got as low as 16. So for the Christmas trip, I put the tank MPG gauge on the display and drove based on that, really babying the gas pedal. Floated between 55-75 mph and mostly kept it under 1700 RPM, and ended up driving like a granny every now and then, but I finally got the advertised MPG. The final MPG (pic below) included multiple bad traffic jams where I was stop & go for like 30 minutes. It did hit 24 at one point, and I really think if there'd been no traffic jams and I'd stayed vigilant, I could easily have had 25-26 MPG. This was driving from east GA to northwest GA, so not too many significant climbs. I couldn't handle driving like that all the time, just wanted to see if 24 was realistic. Keeping that MPG gauge up front and center is kind of a drag, but it makes it happen.

I'm getting around 16-17, but I'm a very aggressive driver, so I can't complain, I'm sure if I drive the speed limit and don't take off like a rocket it would be better, and for the guy that says Toyota is jamming their product down our throat, I disagree, no one is holding a gun to our heads to buy a new one, before I bought the 16, I drove a 2001, so I went about 15 years before buying a new one, and this new truck is awesome!

First tank was around 17mpg with very little spirited driving. half of the 2nd tank I am still around 17-18mpg with very little spirited driving. Looks like this is where I am going to be at. I notice when I am getting on the freeway, the distance to empty drops at least 2 miles just when accelerating moderately to 65mph.

I don't understand the vast difference in numbers here. Makes you seriously wonder how tight toyotas build tolerances are on these trucks. I average around town 25-26 and on my last long trip 783 miles from Florida to Kentucky I averaged 24mpg. That's running 75. Maybe I'm getting better mpg then some due to Florida being such a flat state????

It depends on your driving. Mine is mixed 65-75% highway. If I were to get on the highway and drive from Southern California to Vegas I am sure my MPG would be around 24-26.

I picked up my truck Monday and I'm in the midst of a 4400 mile road trip before I start my new job. I think some of this variation has to be quality in gas. Currently I'm in Colorado coming from Wisconsin. The western half of Iowa was all rolling hills and I got 21.9mpg after filling up at the "world's largest truck stop." Then I filled up again halfway through Nebraska at a Philips 66. Probably one of the most flat states ever and I was only able to get 19mpg on that tank. Then I had to fill up again about 100 miles east of Denver and I got 23mpg all the way through the mountains. After stop and go traffic for an hour headed to Breckenridge my current mpg for this tank is 21.5. Which is impressive considering Nebraska got me 19 on the flattest road possible.

The MPG of the V6 will vary wildly depending of how much time the engine was in Atkinson mode and how much time it was running in Otto cycle mode on a given tank. There are a lot of variables such as driving style, terrain, weather, and traffic. Too bad Toyota did not provide an Atkinson cycle indicator. My Otto cycle 2.7 4x4 AC 5-speed got 24 on the first three tanks and 23 on the last, but that is probably about as good as it will get. The V6 can get 25 mpg which is impressive, but it can also get 14 mpg... not so impressive.

I find my mileage sucks the more ethnol that's in the gas. I hate the stuff and try to avoid it as much as possible it kills your mpg

It's not fuel. It's not good for mpg. It's good for gasoline companies profits

Filled up and divided the gallons by the miles on trip odo and was getting 21.5. The dte only goes to 385 but I set the trip odo and got 430 miles to a full tank the computer omly is am estimate. I have 6000 miles on mine the gas mileage does get better after 3000 miles

From what I have seen from my TRD OR and people that have the TRD Sport, that front air damn gets the truck 1-2 more MPG. been thinking of buying one for my OR.
