This was just normal driving. I'm not babying the truck and in fact I just happened to look down and see it and took a picture. I don't know why you would but the 4 cyl over the 6 other then it being a unfamiliar engine. Certainly your not save gas.

mats, flaps, and stickers. Extang solid fold 2.0. Mobtown sliders and full skids. AVS vents
After first fill up in OR DC SB AT with no tonneau, gauge read 16.9, manual calc at 18.9. Mainly in town, light to light, hills, and traffic. Oh joy! No long trips yet, but I hope it improves.

I have about 400 miles on the new truck. I currently get 14-15 city driving and 18, barely 19 on mostly highway driving (35 miles one way to work).
Tacoma also doesn't have a bed cover so maybe that's why?

How fast are you driving? I get 26 to 28 mpg at 60 mph... Maybe you can't drive that slow

Does yours have a bed cover? Also, this is the first time I have read an OR getting better gas mileage than a sport.

At 2250 miles, I feel like the gas mileage has gotten a lot better. On the freeway if I cruise 65 or even 80, I easily get north of 20 mpg. This morning coming in to work, I got 23 mpg with speeds ranging from 65-75. Like others have said, keeping it under 2500 RPM seems to do the trick. Another thing I'm noticing is that I get decent mileage in heavy stop and go traffic. I can get 18-20 with no problem. I guess thats has to do with the switching to atkinson cycle.

Something about that doesn't seem right, if you can hit those kind of miles per gallon, don't you think Toyota would have hit those MPG's,and posted them instead of 24 miles to the gallon? I'm not saying that it's an impossibility, but something about that doesn't jive

Lol it's pretty damm flat in Florida so that'd be a no on coasting down a mountain for the mpgs. I don't know why it's getting that much. My wife told me she got 28 the other day when she drove it,she drives it more then me, and I told her she was crazy but when I took it out this weekend thats what I got. So either my estimated mpg gauge is way off or for some reason the truck does really well. Even since day one this truck has done extremely well. When I took it on our 700 mile road trip running 75 we averaged 25mgp

You should send those numbers and photos to Toyota Corperation, and see what they think of it.

I notice you are over 3000 miles on the odo. Did your Mpg's get better the more miles you put on it? If so, I have something to look forward too as I'm at 2275 and have noticed an uptick in MPG's myself. I'm getting low 20's on the freeway no problem even with traffic. What kills my MPG's are city streets. Accelerating from a red light really is an MPG killer and I'm not even flooring it.

Absolutely. When we first picked up the truck we were averaging between 23-25 and now on a normal day it's getting 26-28 on the same roads. Now with that being said there's not a ton of stop and go, though there is some traffic lights in our commute it's not a very big town we live in. I do live in Florida so it's extremely flat which I'm sure helps seeing there's no hills to go up.
