Driving myself crazy trying to decide between a Brush Guard or a Plate Bumper on my 2001 SR5.

Would like to add a winch, POST YOUR PICS so I can stop searching Google Pics trying to decide!

This is a no brainer imo, if you can afford it go with a plate bumper. Much better protection and 90% of bumpers have a winch mount.

If you want a winch, then you've gotta have a front bumper that's specifically designed to hold a winch (structurally) AND airbag compatible.

Since you have a first gen....Here's the TJM I had many years ago. I don't know if you can get these or not (here).

Also....look for an ARB front bumper also.

Definitely go with a plate bumper. A little more expensive, but will actually protect your truck if you hit something, unlike a bull bar/brush guard, which will do more damage than good.

I have the All Pro Apex plate bumper, it's held up pretty well so far.

I went round and round trying to make a decision on the bumper... decided on NWTI DIY plate. It all went well although now I'm shopping for replacement front springs/struts/coil-overs due to the extra weight of the steel and winch. (I'm sure I lost an inch or greater) I think the design is great, it's just too heavy for my factory 4 banger springs.

I really like the look of the Elite bumper and the Relentless but Elite apparantly embesled all the costumers money and Relentless takes 4-6 months and doesnt offer Aluminium at this time..
Sucks that these things aren't that readily available for our trucks and some people take advantage of that.

    drr,

I like your All Pro bumper, did you notice your MPG getting worse due to aerodynamics?

No, but I did notice them getting worse due to the 33" tires and the 4.56 gears though :p

The plate bumpers do add a fair amount of weight to the front end, especially if you put a winch in one, so you have to factor that in for your suspension.

Here's my ARB.. I like it a lot for strength and durability, looks good too, but would like something a little sleeker looking.

Also I didn't notice any changes in mpg either, but the front suspension sagged quite a bit especially with the winch so def upgrade that!

Here's mine, just built it this weekend. If you've got an angle grinder with a bunch of cut off wheels and a welder, its fairly simple. I've got a 12,000 lb winch so I had to make this thing pretty big, but it's 10 gauge so it only weighs about 100 pounds with the winch in it.

Acid Fly, When did you get your ELITE bumper? I understand that the guy making them is embesseling money and screwing folks over... Too bad because the bumper is one of the best looking for 1st Gens in my opinion.
