My first archery buck. I've seen, and attempted to stalk, at least 20 decent bucks but the conditions have been very dry and it's like trying to walk quietly on bubble wrap out here. It's not like back east where deer are thick as lice on a hookers bush, out here we have to spot and stalk in open terrain with no cover. This is my third year trying, and having passed up many small bucks in years past and going home with "tag sammich" I decided to put this little feller out of his misery. Stuck through the heart at 35 yards, he went about ten feet.

    Nice.

Speaking of archery, I dug my bow out and shot it for the first time in a decade. Not really sure why I stopped shooting it, but man I missed it.

What do you guys use for practice arrows? I looked everywhere and could only find a few of mine from the last time I shot the thing. I want to buy some more. Any suggestions?

I buy a dozen arrows at a time (sportsmans warehouse for the compound, 3rivers archery for the recurve) , and mark them 1-12. I shoot all 12 into a target at about 40 yards, and mark the arrows that consistently group together. These arrows are "hunting" arrows, all others are practice arrows. Toward the end of season they become grouse arrows. I usually end up with 4-5 that make it till the next year, and they in turn become next years bird/practice arrows. This season I have lost 4 arrows already, and I still have a week to go. Other than that, check yard sales. My buddy picked up almost 100 aluminum arrows for ten bucks. We use them to shoot squirrels and hail mary shots where the chances of fetching your arrow are slim to none.

It was going oh so well yesterday *
    [IMG]

Until about 2 hours till sun down.. I watched a chip monk about 15 yrds out start bounding his way towards me, disappeared for a good 10 mins before making an appearance on my leg. I kindly asked him to remove himself, and he proceeded to scream about it for the next 20-30 mins about 10ft away from me.

Probably shouldn't have plopped myself down on his kitchen table.

Couldn't get a photo of him on my leg, but he is in this picture :)

Needless to say my 1st day of archery season was a bust.

My best friend went out without me this year. At least I still get some meat.
Moose, Cordova, Alaska. He's holding one half and the back end is already in the boat behind him.
