See a nice guy would have just said 741, which would have taken much less time the quoting and editing....:bikewheelie2:

Could be a cougar they are around. The ones in Mn. and Wi. so far have been all males they don't reproduce here but pass through. Couple of years ago had a cat kill a 110 pound great dane at the bottom of the ravine I live at. Carried a gun with me for a month when I let the dogs out at night. That is wolf country but wolves don't bury they call the rest of the pack after the kill and by morning there is nothing left. I have pictures of the stages LOL. Bear and wolves eat starting at the stomach. Lynx (too far south) bobcat and foxes start at the butt end. It has neither so my guess would be a cat also. Bear do bury could have been a deer stuck with an arrow that died and a bear found it but strange didn't eat any. The rear leg looks like a cat take down but the head and neck is how they kill them.

Didn't you know that grouse harvest levels in Mn. and Wi. are at an all time record low harvest levels and even the biologist don't know why?! :D Looks like a great hunt to me and great dogs.

Week and a half ago pretty much finished up my 2 weeks of grouse hunting on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Averaged about 2 birds a day not great but about steady for that area. Much better areas to hunt but that is "my" area in Lake and Cook Counties. Managed about a 75% shot to harvest ratio this year and that helped. Don't feel I give up much if anything hunting flushers.

First day shot a red and gray phase and a spruce. On the Canadian border and normally average 1 spruce a year shot 2 this year. And about 50% red phase normally it is a lot more gray phase.

One worn out Toller at the end of the day. He didn't even mind the 70's burnt orange decor of the cabin. In fact think he felt that he blended in.

Lucked into this old guy in the final minutes of shooting light. Was rutting hard on a doe and some small bucks. Walked from over 600 yards to 165. Massive body. Real old. Battle scars and old man Roman nose. Super stoked!

Thank you sir. Turned around to back out after watching the small bucks and friend says "gonna look over here real quick..." Followed by " get your gun up and ready!" Awesome close to the day of stalking. Blind luck is the best luck sometimes. :D

I've yet to put one down here this season, but I came damn close.

So the last time I used my black powder was in January, when I took it out in the National Forest in a down pour. I guess I didn't clean it well enough because when I took it out for opening day a couple weeks ago, I had the cross hairs on the chest of a nice 8 point at about 25 yards, and I pulled the trigger, and just heard "click." Pulled the hammer back again, pulled the trigger - "click." He picked his head up from nosing a doe and looked at me all "WTF?!" and then trotted off briskly none the wiser. So I climbed down and it took all of my will power not to bash my CVA against a tree on the way out of the woods. Took the ol' smoke pole home and broke her down, all the way this time, and sure enough, the firing pin was rusted in place! Man, I felt like an idiot.
