It was the 11th biggest bear killed in pa that year. PA is prolly the top state in the north east for mature weights and bears. Coastal nc grows some giants also. Normally there are a few every year in the 600-800 pound range killed here.

thats a lot of blubber ;) do you do anything with the fat? its actually pretty good around here, and cracklins are good also :) Id prob pee a little if I saw a bear that big around here. Usually only see them on game camera by baits. Ive only seen a handful in Idaho away from baits, but as game cameras reveal there are far more out there than what we see.

The guy I hunt with caught a 400-450 Pounder in New Mexico this year. He said it’s probably the biggest bear he’s ever seen in 25 years of running hounds.
I think they have a lot more feed on that side of the country, and maybe milder weather? I don’t know about the second one for sure.

Actually I made soooo much Bologna and sausage I just finished it this year. Think I shot him in 14. We took a bunch of fat since it’s so greasy and chunked it, blended it in with deer meat for bologna and sausage. Ppl bitch and say bear meat is greasy and bad tasting. It’s all how ya prepare it and make it. The fat is greasy, the meat is lean as hell. I love it haha.

yep, its really good in burger form. I did use the fat in some pastries and it was really good. I noticed our bears here have some fat in the meat but it wasnt like a ribeye. I've also grilled the backstraps and those were also good. Wife did a roast, it wasnt great--wasnt bad either could have been the way it was cooked. It was tender however and not greasy at all.

There might be some big ones here, I just havent heard of too many. I know in 2014 there was a few BIG bears on camera, but Ive since moved bait locations and I think many have been shot around here. Seems like the really big ones are strictly nocturnal at baits...

I used to think I was the "great white Hunter" till I saw my first bear kill at 17 it was a bull elk...in that moment I realised in that I am a weak meat bag an gained the upmost respect for wild game.

You just have to put things in perspective. You get on the road everyday with idiots in 5000lb machines and think nothing of it. They are more likely to kill you than a large predator in the woods.
