Yea I had him pegged at 2 years old, honestly. My house is surrounded by thick woods and it’s hard to get anything to grow. The only place i could possibly plant anything is in the holler below the house, but there’s a wet weather spring and every time it rains, it floods it.

I throw out a pitcher of corn every evening and throw a mineral lick out sometimes.

I’m hoping he’ll make it, but, around here if it’s got horns it’s dead. There was a 4 point last year that would let you walk up and pet it. Some asshole shot him.

Unfortunately people don’t understand how genetics work; if you shoot all the nice immature bucks, they don’t get to breed and improve the gene pool. IMO immature bucks younger than 4 1/2 that have good genetics shouldn’t be shot. I know it’s hard to do, but if all landowners in a given area do it, and keep the doe/buck ratio in line, big bucks will be seen more regularly, and there will be more of them. Buck fever is a mofo though, lol.

Anyone interested in a all inclusive elk hunt in Northern New Mexico?! My friend is a professional guide with a fantastic piece of property and beautiful lodge to stay in. PM if you're interested. Here are some of the views from my weekend scouting trip there....DSC_0014.jpg DSC_0031.jpg DSC_0038.jpg
Dates for the hunt are Oct. 13-17.
