Just a question here... Why is it do you think people have the idea that shooting bucks for the freezer is the best way?

But why would you consider it a trophy if you only shoot for meat? Hmmm

Oh nice, I’ve never done bait before just ran dogs.

Also makes more sense when you specified color haha. We’re rarely ever catch black black bears here.

some people rely on a freezer full of venison or elk to feed their family through the winter

No everyone gets a Henry Mountain or Antelope Island buck tag in Utah

You can kill 2 cow elk in Utah with the proper permits, doe permits are harder to come by.

Doe deer are usually land owner depredation tags.......DWR give land owners voucher tags...

he can sell them or just give them away.....then that person goes to DWR office and for a mere

$40......you'll get a tag.....usually run mid Aug-mid Oct..now cow elk are issued by the Utah draw

system..our only lottery......Nevada does this for Utah.....lottery is illegal in Utah.....

what a crock of :crapstorm: General Draw buck tags for the average Joe.....is every two years......yep.....

even on my on property....I have to pay $40 to shoot a buck.....every two years.....I can get doe tags......

but not interested......even while wintering 40+ head every winter......:angrygirl:

because I dont have a 10,000 acre fenced ranch to hunt on where I can manage deer. Im lucky to have lots of public land to hunt but with that if I decide to pass on a 4.5+yr old or older buck it doesnt mean the next guy bebopping along is going to pass on it. Also a nice 8pt here is going to have a lot more meat than a doe, and if it is shot before the rut the meat is outstanding. finally we only get one deer tag at resident price. We have the option to buy another tag for the out of state price of $301. but usually we dont get the out of state tag.

A quick review on my new knife.

I can’t remember who on here recommended the Dozier brand of handmade knives, but thank you.

I purchased a handmade Dozier Skinner knife earlier this year and I finally got to use it the other weekend. This knife is amazing. It is perfectly balanced in my hand, very comfortable to work with and can cut through the joints like butter. I skinned and quartered three deer over two days and the knife stayed super sharp the whole time.

Just saw this. That’s a nice muley, prob 3 1/2. I’ve never hunted high fenced areas, so that makes two of us. I can post up a couple pics if you want to see some low fenced bucks I’ve shot.

Hunting in Texas is obviously a lot different than hunting in Utah, I figured I’d state that just Incase that wasn’t known

I did not make gravy. I wish I had, for the broth looked too good to give dogs.

Just to throw this in here too, NM doesn’t even have doe tags. If you want meat for the freezer you’re going to go for whatever legal buck comes your way. I think meat is tastier than antlers anyways, crazy huh o_O

Oh I know, usually just brush it off but had to say something

Speaking of “immature” deer. My first ever deer is on to it’s hydrogen peroxide bath. Only 3%, read should leave it in for a couple days since low concentration. That true?
