sssshhhh...... don’t tell anyone. It’s that round that can’t reliably kill deer. .223 Remington Hornady 60gr spirepoint.

joking aside, I’m not a “trophy” hunter. I’ve been at this for about 15 years now and have yet to have anything mounted. Just a nice pile of antlers. I like being out there, the challenge of getting them close, eating some of the best meat available and putting them down right where they stand. I’ve taken 9 deer over the last 3 years with this rifle. One at 80 yrds and the rest within 30. All were neck shots except for this one, which was a straight on chest shot at 25. All were DRT. I don’t lose meat to the shot anymore and I don’t trail. I’ve had to pass up on some nice deer because this approach requires the perfect shot and lots of patience.

last years buck below. I typically only take 2 does and 1 buck each season. I’ve found that this is just enough to see me through to the next season while sharing some with friends and family.

For those that think this isn’t enough bullet or whatever. Please bring on the hate. I appreciate you doing your part to keep the universe in balance!!!

I don't care what you kill one with, meat is meat :D

    Nice deer and happy hunting!

I like a good neck shot, drop them or miss them. I've done both, lol

Pretty sure a .223 hits harder than an arrow, yet thats an acceptable "round" if you will. If you're dropping them in place and doing it right then it's not an issue.
I hunt plenty of stuff with my 5.56. Including dropping deer where it stood. I prefer the 72 gr HP just for the added whap, but thats just me. 62gr is ample.

    Nice deer man.

in my state the min caliber is 24. I actually didn't know there were states that allow 22.

Those pics are fake. Everyone knows the vicious whitetail can only be taken with a .577 Trex supercalifragilisticexpialidocious whizbang ultra long heavy duty mondo magnum. The smart ones carry a double rifle.

Other than S.C., I think NC has the longest and least prohibitive hunting regulations. No minimum caliber, no requirement to hunt from an elevated position, etc. In NC we don’t have a physical tagging requirement. Call it in to get a number you write in on you’re license’s “big game tag”. This year the license includes 2 antlered and 4 antlerless. Archery starts 9/4, Blackpowder 9/28, Gun season 10/12. Season ends at close of legal shooting light 1/1/2020.

I know guys that poach with a Hornet......:anonymous:

I hate fucking poachers BTW.....I just know them. The worst is having to sit there and listen to them brag about it and there is nothing I can do.

They can shoot like mother fuckers though and are NOT full of shit.

bow opens 10/15, muzzeloader/ air rifle opens the monday before gun season, gun season is always the saturday before thanksgiving all seasons end feb 10
all center fire calibers are legal as long as mushrooming ammo is used (yes down to a .25 acp) we have an app to report harvest, 3 bucks per year, one must have 4 on one side. in some counties you can shoot 1 doe a day... every day; if you hunt with a bow all year you can do that in any county, but where i hunt the first 10 days of gun season and another 10 day does season around christmas and new year's is the only chance i have to get 20 does... you can still shoot a buck on a day you shoot a doe; we used to be able to shoot 2 does a day or a doe and a buck... pretty lax oh and this year baiting is legal as long as you buy a $15 baiting license... which i guess i need to get on that since tomorrow is opening day for me

forgot that remington came out with the .17 fireball or whatever that is centerfire so its good to go too afaik

Hope you like eating deer meat, didn’t realize your numbers were so high down there to be able to shoot that many

apparently (as i was double checking the caliber fact, which was right) there are about 180,000 deer hunters in the state and they report around 300,000 deer per year, so i fall into the average. i try and put a doe or two in the freezer and then horn hunt the rest of the year... my wife also hunts so 3 deer between us will carry us comfortably over to next season

They've changed our bag limits, used to be 2 deer a day. Now we can kill 2 bucks and 4 does and can kill all 6 deer in one day if we want.

I mean I shot 6 two years ago, 2 buck limit and 4 does and then my dad shot 4, 2 bucks and 2 does. We ate all of it throughout off season but we don’t buy beef at all we live on deer meat and fish. I honestly don’t know where Michigan is at, I know we are way too overpopulated though

These guys are known to the Sheriff dept, trust me. When I was building an 8k acre reservoir, these guys worked on my crew and I spent countless hours trying to catch them out there shooting these monster bucks. Countless hours, with the cops and game wardens. Never could. They are 3rd and 4th generation poachers and proud of it. Shit, one of them has "Outlaw" tattooed on his forearm.
They will get caught one day, I have no doubt, it will just take time. I personally know 2 of the sheriffs who have religiously chased these guys for years. Everyone knows they do it, they just are sneaky sons of bitches.
