After years of trying(not super hard trying) I finally got a Nevada Sooty grouse.

OK, I gotta ask.....what exactly is a 'Nevada sooty grouse'??? A gray phase ruffed grouse or what??? NEVER heard that term, so it is probably a local term.

It's just a blue grouse. I think fairly recently they separated blues into Dusky and Sooty. Sooty are the coastal birds and the Dusky are the Rocky Mountain birds. Nevada has small populations of both. I've shot a bunch of them in Oregon, but never Nevada.

Posted this in the deer hunting thread but figured I’d toss it on here too.

We knocked this guy down at 7300’ migrating out of the high country last week. Giant 3X4 with eye guards, went 178” with 42” of mass. Most mass I’vepersonally seen on the hoof.

No pic, I know it doesn't really count now.

Caught a 20" snook last night, everyone was turkey coma'ed out so my nephew (he's 33) and I went fishing down at the inlet. Wasn't big enough to bother taking a picture of.

As Bob (Stayin Stock) said.....they are all big enough for a pic!!!! 3 years ago, my son's very first fish on a fly!!! Either a native trout or chub (more likely) as I wasn't close enough to get a good look. BUT, I have a picture of it!!!IMG_20220513_210651~2.jpg

Took pics tonight for y’all. My nephew and I killed it again.
Live it when two local boys go down to the local dock and dominate everyone. 7 total. Mine was the only slot snook to keep.
Everyone else was donuts. Then they creeped in on us and we bailed.
Got dinner and didn’t feel like getting spit on, started to sprinkle.
