No. It's not required, but I do. You just can't see it in this photo. The whole sides and back are orange. I won't hunt without it.

    cfd87d18ab9a7d4ab27ea25d7e6b3415_5eb5c4d40e3433c5e5483872135d088d87686ee5.jpg

My gun is laying on the back of it.

This is the vest I have. To all you upland guys, I cant endorse this thing any more. It is a seriously bad ass vest. It's basically a backpack, but in vest form. The waist sits super comfy taking the load off your shoulders.

If you load the shell pockets up to much, dont run or jog, they will flop open, make sure the clips are engaged.

It will take a hydration pouch although I dont typically carry one.

It holds 3 pheasant and 3 grouse no problem. I know this from first hand experience. It will also hold a first aid kit, 1/4 roll of toilet paper, space blanket and a litany of other shit. I can fit roughly 40 shells in this thing.....however, if your a good shot you dont need that many.

Been meaning to clue you guys in on this but havent gotten around to it. Its pricy at $200 but well worth it. The shoulder straps have never gotten in my way either.

No negatives or cons to report.

Nice vest Rob. I have a Badlands daypack; their gear is awesome.

Jim, AK doesn't mandate wearing orange either, but I do when birdhunting. They make a big point of the benefits of wearing orange in their hunter safety course.

You're right. I was speaking about here in the U.S. which I'm gonna guess they were based on the rebel flag on the wall behind them.

Saw my first deer of the season this mornin. I usually shoot the first buck I see just to get some meat in the freezer, then hunt horns. Well, first one I saw this morning was a spike and I didn't feel like gutting/skinning a spike. About 30 minutes later a little 5 point came out. I know he's not big, but it's meat, so I don't really care. Can't eat horns anyway.

Also, first one I've slammed with the new 30-06 I bought toward the end of last season

    OH MY GOD.

That's one young buck. Gotta let them get big! If i don't see any big bucks, I always will pop a doe for meat. It keeps the doe to buck ratio in check, plus does have the the best meat anyway!

I wasn't able to hunt during muzzleloader (either sex), and I don't have a bow. We only have 3 either sex days, one is this saturday, and I have to work. I think the other 2 are toward the end of next month. I usually won't kill a doe after the rut has kicked off. I assume she's been bred and look at it as killing 2 at once. With the acorn crop down here right now, who knows if I'll even see another deer? One of the guys I hunt with has been in the woods basically every day since bow season opened and has seen a total of 2 deer. My dad still hasn't seen any. Figured I'd take my opportunity while I had it.
