Yeah mine was down hill for maybe 10 miles up in the mountains, I can still get 25-26 out of my manual 4x4 with no stops on flat ground. Shift before 2k and watch the instant mpg to see how you can do better on different terrain

You guys should love your MPG lol...

The 5th Gen T4R I just got gets 16 on the highway, like less than 10 around town... So heavy. So bad on gas.

Uh, step 1: don't be a lazy bastard. Step 2: read the owner's manual?

I'm in a Trd off road. I think I got it but I can only see average and not current mpg. Also is the fully app worth the trouble ?

My '16 SR5 DC V6 is the 4th Toyota truck I have owned since 2003 ('03 and '05 4.7L V8's and '12 4.6L V8 Tundras). All got basically sh!tty mileage (max 19 hwy on 4.7L's and sometimes 20 with the 4.6L). If a tank was used totally in-town all I got 13-14 mpg on any of them. I have been really surprised with the new Tacoma. I drove it on a 300 mile round trip last weekend and it registered 23.7 at it highest and today, after some in-town driving, it is still showing 22.7. Some are saying the mpg indicator is not all that accurate but the '12 Tundra was spot on when comparing it to a manual calculation. The one good thing about the Tundra's gauge that it could be reset at each fill-up. I have not found a way to do that with the Tacoma but haven't read the manual either. I now have a little over 2K on the clock and I will check it manually the next fill-up. I did check it once manually around 1K miles and it was pretty damn close. Truck's computer showed 18.7 average and manual calculation showed 18.5165 (iPhone).

This might be the bit in the manual that you missed:

Press up and down on the right steering wheel cluster. You can also set the 3 screens in the settings menu. Find manual and read

I like tracking gas mileage and trends. I'm also a mathematician, so there's that...

    Nearly all downhill
Manual transmission (stayed in 6th gear except for going up a few hills)
Cruise control nearly the whole way
341km (Kelowna, BC to Mission, BC)
    500lbs +/- in the bed
    4 passengers average 160lbs
Ambient temperature ranged between -6C and 8C
Roads were clear, no traffic, straight driving, weather was sunny

I don't think I missed any details, but honestly I was expecting much better mileage than this given the conditions.

Anyone got thoughts/suggestions/opinions/laughs? (At least gas is cheap right meow

    Yep! Didn't see that..
I always fully fuel my truck...usually at about a quarter of a tank. I noticed the average mpg would go to "0" and then immediately start climbing. Figured it was resetting but you have confirmed it. Thanks...like others have written, this forum is better than any Toyota tech!

Hard to say, I'm seeing better economy driving Vancouver Island highways in my Frontier 4.0L 6MT.

The worst highway fuel economy I see is from Nanaimo to Campbell River, set the cruise to 125km/h, always 12.2 - 12.6 when I top up near the Gold River turn off. Everywhere else it's between 10.2 and 10.8 if I drive 100% highway.

It's a king cab and not loaded with more than 3 adults and maybe 250lbs of extras.

I'll have to do another road trip just the wife and I with our normal amount of gear. A trip to Whistler and back would be a good reading I think. We don't take that much with us and its mostly uphill and then mostly downhill on the way back...

Either way, I can't really complain
    - gas is cheap right now
    - I went from 2 vehicles down to one awesome vehicle
    - I know what I was getting into before I purchased the truck
    - and lastly, my 3rd gen gets better mileage than my 4cyl Subaru Forester was getting before we sold it.

All in all, no serious complaints about the Mileage I'm getting. Maybe in a few months when gas goes up tho haha

I'm at 7500 miles, nearly all of it on two-lane in the mountains and villages of SW Colorado. One trip to Salt Lake and back, through Moab on two lane and one trip to Eastern KS, also mostly 2 lane. DCSB Sport MT. The MT makes this a completely different vehicle. I pass Tundras and other full size every day that I drive up the passes, this is just geared well for using fourth and fifth at 45-65 all day long. Mostly 17-18 going uphill and 30 combing back down for the overall averages seen here. Very pleased.2:23 Taco.jpg
