I think you meant traction control by ETC. It never occurred to me that disabling the traction control would result in a little better gas mileage. However I personally leave it on ( after viewing many you tube videos regarding electronic stability control, abs brakes system and traction control. Plus the Tacoma has front / rear brake distribution on a hard fast stop. I'd only disable those systems if I needed wheel spin to get me out of a bad situation like in sand or on ice etc.

I do get 1 more mpg using premium shell 93 nitro fuel. It's $3.09 here as opposed to 87 regular at BJ's. But it's been shown to really clean or keep engines like new so for me its insurance for long trouble free miles.

The owners manual states the use of 87 octane or higher. At 11.8 to 1 compression I feel the Tacoma should be able to take full advantage of the premium gas. Today's vehicles have knock sensors that take care of poor quality lower than recommended octane fuels so maybe the opposite applies with the use of better premium fuels. ????

At any rate I'd suggest everyone use fuel from only Tier 3 fuel providers. I do. When I can't get shell premium 93 I'll get premium from one of the many tier 3 service stations. You can google tier 3 to look up which fuel service brands and providers are tier 3. Dannyblues

77.3 mpg if I read that correctly. Either you are driving with the engine off down the face of Mt Everest or your hybrid ran out of gas and you are on only battery power or it's a video hoax or the dashboard of a 49 cc scooter ( that I gave to my grandson and the specs indicate it gets 200 mpg. maximum). That metric system confuses me. I'm sorry. Only in Canada I learned to multiply the posted speeds in Km by six. So when it says 100 km per hour it means multiplied by 6 = 60 mph. That's as far as I ever went with metric except for my tools that half are metric.

Why we ever went to metric plus kept standard measurements I'll never know. I figure to get us to buy a whole new second set of tools

I wouldn't know if my doctor says the growth on my face is 3 km or 3 cc or 3 mm and what that means. Is it good or big or what? Dannyblues

Different subject if you all don't mind: does anyone know how fast a 3.5 liter v6, 2016 Tacoma double cab 4x4 with six speed manual shift and stock 4:33 rear can actually go??? The owners manual states maximum speed from fifth to sixth as well as in sixth is 117 mph.

    I'm talking mph not mpg.

Don't anybody get hurt or arrested to prove what the maximum mph is but I'm curious....

Also with 11.8 to 1 compression that develops 268 hp and I think 235 ft/ lbs of torque wouldn't you think the engine could develop more hp with premium gas at least if it were tuned differently or as in stock trim?? I use shell 93 nitro fuel. I see 1 more mpg. Owners manual states 87 octane or higher so I am under the impression true or false I don't know that premium fuel is able to be easily burned thoroughly and therefore develop more hp.

The Acura with a similar 3.5 liter engine develops 331 hp but at a much higher rpm and I'm sure has a different torque curve. So what about tuning my TRD for higher hp??? Anyone out there an engineer or test race car driver know these answers Dannyblues

If your 87 Octane contains alcohol than you are going to get more energy out of non-alcohol fuel. Beyond that the higher Octane gas should have no affect on gas mileage or so my kid tells me - Power Engineer with Suncor over in Ft McMurray, AB. I run non alcohol 87 Octane gas. Last summer based on miles driven and gas consumed I managed 30 Imperial MPG driving 60 miles an hour on cruise control. Best I have ever managed.

    Take Care

Just to rule out braking and throttle management affecting mileage I turned off TRAC and stability control for a tankfull. Made no difference in mileage.

That truck is cherry. Mines black but dark grey or silver like yours were my other choices. I envy those tires of yours when it snows here in northwestern Connecticut Dannyblues

Sounds like you aren't in the states. Maybe across the pond? Yes gas here has a small percentage of ethanol or methanol up to 15% I think. Not sure. It sucks as a fuel. I sure won't argue with your son, a Sunoco engineer. By the way ask him why Sunoco isn't listed as a tier 3 fuel????? I'd love to know. Sunoco here once had 94 octane and refined all their fuel themselves. Now as others they buy some if not all their basic octanes fuels from a general fuel distributor and add their own particular addititives. All fuel starts the same. Just each brand adds its own special stuff. Like detergents mostly. Dannyblues

Yes. My best highway almost exclusively was 22.2 and that's when my 16 TRD sport double cab v6 with six speed manual was pretty new, maybe 3000 miles on it or so.

Sometimes I bring up the current mpg on the dash screen and it seems on the highway in sixth at 65 mph I'm getting 30 mpg most of the time. But traffic, hills, braking, passing etc eats into that fast. I don't look at that screen much. It effects my natural driving and makes me more crazy than I already am. Dannyblues

31/41 mpg!!!!???? Doesn't seem possible. Four cylinder automatic on flat ground going under the posted highway speed limit or coasting diwnhill a lot?? How do you get that kind of mileage in a 2016 Tacoma??? Dannyblues
