Just thought I'd post up a snap shot of where I am on this primarily commuting and errands around town/city (3 short trips). Some questioned the ability to hit 500 miles on a tank. Looks positive now... A little less than 3/4 of a tank on the dash and it is at 202.6 miles. I suspect I hit low 5's. Time will tell. I'll check the final MPG to the fill-up as well. Have before receipt and will note the fill-up and do the math.

My last five tanks were all over 500 miles. My last one was 588.6 (from completely full to 50 miles past "Please Refuel"). In retrospect, I could have hit 600.

Tharris242, what was your Tank MPG Average? I figure the tank will go down faster on the back side, but should get over 500.

Some of you guys are knocking it out of the park with those potential 500 + miles per tank.....that's respectable milage.

the 'Tank Average Fuel Economy' (Current Fuel Economy) is the better actual fuel gauge than the 'Average Fuel Economy' gauge.

It probably could have been 25.5; but, was only officially 25, EXACTLY. (588.6 miles per 23.544 gallons.)
Here it is in more detail: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/running-of-out-gas-test.501900/page-3#post-15652847

Since my transmission sucks (dealer just said I have rev1 and they reset the learning; but, I can't believe it) I use "S" mode (usually S3, 4, 5, 6). Accelerate moderately not going over 2500 rpm; don't accelerate slowly or under 1500 rpm; when you get to speed upshift. Same as any other vehicle, probably. I drive where limits are mostly 35, 45, and 65. Don't go over 65... mpgs plummet.

I try to keep it at 1,500 RPM my trips have all been commuting and a few errands around town on this tank. I hit 28.5 mpg on the tank this morning. Not sure how it is going to add up when I get to the end of the tank. I am just over half a tank and at 260. We'll see. What is impressive to me is this is all commuting, 2 ways, its not a long generally downhill run etc... On my Eco page I am averaging in the upper 40's mph on my trips. A bit of start and go, but mostly slow going I try to keep it around 63 mph if I can.

I don't like to draw hard lines at say, 65mph. In general, on flat roads and uphill sure. But, on a decent downhill I could be going upwards of 80mph while still showing 40mpg on the instant gauge.

I generally set my cruise for 55 (as a minimum limiter), but only really hit that toward the end of 2 long and steady uphills on my commute.

Hovering around 60-62 on flats and uphills (still taking advantage of gravity) I can easily hit 26-27mpg range this time of year.

... but yeah increase that to 65-70 and i'll see more like 23mpg on a full tank. <-- that is generally how I drive when not thinking.

On long road trips it is more like 75+mph and 19-20mpg ... because I'd rather make better time at the cost of more fuel.

sorry to hit you on an old post, but been trying to do alot of research. What PSI are you rolling with these days? The installer put my new KO2s at 55 PSI and i only last maybe 1 mpg from stock ride previously. debating on jumping up to 70 as well.

I find when I use cruise control my MPG easily goes down by 18% in most scenarios when driving longer distances. That is per the MPG display.

Don't be a hater, bro. You can get 600 miles on a tank if you use all the gas it will hold and get ~25.5 mpg. (It'll hold >23.5 gallons from the top of the neck to the bottom of the tank... ~50 miles past "please refuel".)

Go drive the flat section of 217 between Hollister and the beach with your cruise set (no A/C, no wind, 30+ psi, warm fluids) and tell me what mpg you get.
    At 65 you'll get ~23
    At 60 you'll get 25+
    At 55 you'll get 27+
    At 50 you'll get ~30
So, you can see how one could easily get over 25 mpg given the right conditions.

It really depends how cruise is used. I have it on all the time, but I'll drive faster than it is set most of the time ... which has no negative impact.

Going up a long or steep hill using my foot will consistently read higher on the throttle sensor, but with cruise set it will use what it needs to maintain my desired cruise speed.

Just giving you shit. Of course in prime conditions mileage can skyrocket. I however, live on a hill and will never see that kind of mileage IRL. Heh...helps you that Huston is as flat as a girl before puberty. Didn't buy a truck for mileage anyway.

Also, WTF. Are you stalking me? How do you know my freeways? :spy:

7r41lbr34k3r I typically set cruise on long open road trips and cruise at higher speeds. I do not like how it downshifts on hills. My Gen 2 was really bad about it too. Get below the pegged speed and it will downshift and about floor it! Like you said though guess it depends how you use it.

Bwonger, on the last 5 commutes 2 in and 3 back have all been right at 30 or better. I hit 31 yesterday on the screen that pops up when you shut the truck off. It is a 4x4 4dr OR. I am at 28.5 per the tank average and at half a tank. I think I am about 15 miles shy of 300 miles on the odometer. I've run errands 3 trips or I bet I'd be closer to 29. I'll do the math when I refill to see how it compares to the tank mpg. Last scenario it calculated pretty close, but that was a 1/4 of a tank. We'll see... I bet its within 6 percent or so of accuracy, but we'll see.
