Hey Monkey proof posted a couple pics on a thread and they showed good use of winching capabilities. It would be nice to see all those crazy recovery pics that i know are out there somewhere:D i dont have any from my old Toyotas but i have 4 point rigging with anchors from Hit Iraq. i know its not Toyotas but hopefully someone will make up for it.

a snatch block is essential to have for recovery other then using it to reduce load pull..can allow to use a winch and odd angles to conduct a recovery...

here's my buddy Tim who attemted the "Gate Keeper" at Calico...twisted his rear driveshaft and debeaded 2 tires all withing 2 minutes...if we didn't have that snatch block, recovery would've been next to impossible..

Just for clarification - the line was 'taught' and no winching was actually occuring with all those people standing around.

Tellico - pulling a rig up Guardrail. One winch wasn't enough. Two vehicles, two winches & two snatch blocks.

There's no way in hell that every situation can be done perfectly safe given the terrain & situation at hand. Common sense must be used while on the trail to perform the safest attempts at recovery.

If you're gonna go THAT far with the safety aspect of winching...then perhaps you need to start looking at everyones winches & winch lines also.
The importance of keeping the winch line spooled properly (tightly and neatly) onto the spool AND inspecting the cable for broken wires, kinks, bends, etc. In the occupational area, there are OSHA standards for that could easily apply in the wheeling world. And leather gloves do not make it OK to use a messed up winch line.

Where do you draw the line?

BTW - Nobody was handling the winch line in that picture. My husband was the only person to handle the winch line. He uses gloves. We don't carry 10 pairs of gloves for everyone else.

I was looking forward to seeing more winching pictures but I think Timmer scared everyone off...

C'mon...recovery is the easiest time for by-standers to snap pictures. There has to be more out there!

its not a winching photo...but rather...using a strap to keep a vehicle from flopping itself over

oh good one....here's another example of using a strap to keep the vehicle form flopping over...

at the Gate Keeper again..just at a different day...going down this time instead of the usual direction which is up...

You usually go UP THAT!!! Holy sheeet man!

I would love to see that in person. Seems like you would need a caged (boat) crawler to get up something like that. You're doing it in a road worthy vehicle! Great pictures...keep 'em coming.

    mmm...winching....

Hard to see but the winch line is pulled tight under the snow in front of the truck
    [IMG]

As much as I wish I had actually driven this obstacle I must admit I winched it.
