Yep...this counts in my book. I'm jealous of that beach and those views.

    Yes.
    Padre Island National Seashore (Texas)

This weekend I took my Mobile Antenna Farm for a little Overland Expedition with the guys from Central Texas Offroaders & the FJ Cruiser Forums.

We setup camp with at 25.5 miles south down the beach from the Visitor's Center.

The following day, we drove all the way to the end of North Padre Island, which is 60 miles from the visitor's center, and 34.5 miles south from where we camped.

Even though this isn't Venice Beach, I thought I should flex a little.

Here's a video of the drive to base camp from the visitor's center

Damn, I totally would have invited myself along if I'd known this was happening! I've been meaning to make it all the way down that beach.

There isn't actually much of a beach to drive on, it really depends on the lakes level, it was fairly high in these pics. This is at Harrison Lake, BC. It's a massive lake, and there are multiple sections that do lead down to the water though. However a lot of the larger beaches are closed off to 4x4's now. Guys were destroying them in their trucks so they shut them down to try and protect the natural beauty of the place.

And surely you got some nice beaches you can drive on in SoCal? I'll gladly do a little trade.

No driving on any beaches in SoCal. They barely allow dogs on any of them (although I do understand why - different thread I suppose). I think you can camp on a few spots, but no driving on them here like we could do in Florida.

Those pics of your campsite and that lake are awesome! I'd probably tent right there and not leave for a month, if I could. Beautiful.

Ya, I guess the "SoCal" coast really isn't that big and all of it is heavily populated. If you head north from LA are there any spots on the Cali coast you can drive right onto?

I plan on doing a road trip of the Cali/Oregon coast next spring/early summer. Anyone know of any places you can get the truck onto the beach? I know Oregon has few places but I'm not sure about Cali.

From LA Pismo is the first and only. There isn't anywhere else that I can think of South of Bolinas/Drakes Bay. I suggest you bring your passport and head South of the Border if you want to camp and drive on the beach. Fishing, camping, off-roading and surfing are all easily accessible down there.
