That's a build sheet, not an invoice. They hand those out like candy, gotta ask for an invoice.

Got hit with a $680 tda fee in Michigan. Paying invoice, $200 doc fee, and ttl. Seems legit, but man does that suck. :angrygirl:

I have a firm offer from a dealer for a new 2016 Access Cab 4 x 4 TRD OffRoad. Includes the Technology package, the towing package, destination charge, and a ridiculous doc fee ($589) for $34,589. Still too high but we have not started a serious negotiation. The attachment is as high as I will go (invoice column) but looking for less.

Just got an EMail back from A Toyota dealer in the DFW said that Toyotas Advertising fee is $1028 on a 4x4 TRD OR DoubleCab. I haven't responded yet but that sounds crazy to me!

True car shows regional fees of over 1k for my BF zip code. I assumed those were for FDA fees?

Yes, the truecar regional fees, are the tda. I looked them up in my area, and it was accurate. It is a legit fee, but some dealers may manipulate it, so checking truecar would be a good place to start.

I'd like to know how many have actually got out of paying the TDA fee, my charge in the KC region is over $700. They tell me it is non-negotiable. I think if is a rip-off because I had my truck ordered before they even starting to be advertised.....

You will find a dealer who won't charge you TDA if you call around. They can eat it with their holdback at the end of the quarter if it is a mandatory charge. People here in socal are getting 1000 above invoice and not hearing anything about TDA

I've gotten out the door prices from a few dealerships in eastern TN. No mention of any TDA fees here. :notsure:

The key is the bottom line, out the door price.

Many dealers like to negotiate then add on these 'everyone gets it' fees.

Some dealers claim 'no added fees', but their price often includes the fees, just not called out as a line item.

Your best negotiating power with any of them is the ability to walk away.

Instant gratification is not a financial skill.

That fee is obsolete/illegal in Ontario, Canada.

But they do try to charge an Anti-Theft registration fee of anywhere between $250 and $500. I refused to pay that after the dealer PDI'd my truck. He said it was too late, and I told him that was too bad for him, as I had already had told him a that I didn't want it before they PDI'd the truck. I was trading in a 2008, so I had no money out of pocket or a deposit that he could ransom. I also had another dealer lined up to give me the same deal, so I was in a position to walk.

I ended up with a bunch of extras for free, since the Business Manager f'd-up:

    - Platinum Anti-Theft $295 (some micro mini spray they put on the truck, doesn't freakin' matter as wreckers and body shops don't give a shit anyway and I had my tailgate stolen all the same)
    - Electronic Anti-rust module thingy $1400 (doesn't freakin' work at all , so I painted the frame and chassis three times with Krylon Industrial satin black rust paint and Crown rust spray the hell out of the truck now)
    - Seat/Leather protect $1000 (got a new leather seat cover out of the deal, but they installed it like a wet mitten and I then had to have it redone at a proper auto upholstery shop on their dime)
    - ECP for 160,000 km (100,000 mile) bumper to bumper (had windshield replaced due to a stress crack, but they fucked that up too, and it took three trips for them to get the high-speed buzz to go away)
    - 4 free oil changes and a tire rotation ( I discovered they had cross-threaded the drain plug when I did the fifth OC on my own, so I rethreaded the drain and installed a Fumoto valve, changed to Mobil 1 5w-30/Lucas stabilizer/Mobil 1 High capacity flow filter and my fuel mileage went up by 200 km a tank, and no more TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC !!)

I am afwaid, very afwaid of taking my truck to Toyota, so I do everything myself.

But that purchase was in 2012... and the Business manager is gone.

They already have enough profit built into the cost of the truck for their advertising... To me it sounds like a scam because it varies so greatly from area to area and even dealerships within an area. Just my opinion.

Day off from the dealership? I promise you $500 is HUGE to the dealer..... "Hell its only $8 a month more" Who has not heard that line of BS...

I have heard that speech before from sales guys on the lot...First they try to humiliate (IE Bolded part) Then they try logic.."Paying more for your truck makes someone else save money in the long run"

TrueCar is not the way to buy a vehicle. It was before the dealers got in a huff and made them change the way they do business. They are paid to generate leads. Dealers more often than not will honor the Certificates but only against a vehicle that is priced at "MSRP" which includes Dealer adds of $1300 in mop and glow....after port adds of $300 for Mats and $599 for "ToyotaCare" effectively wiping out any"TrueCar savings"

The only way to buy a vehicle is look up invoice and Doc Fees and make an offer below and Keep making higher offers until you feel the truck is not worth it. I would have NEVER paid MSRP for mine.....or any vehicle. Saving a couple grand up front payss huge dividends and really comes into play big time when one goes to sell the vehicle.

Invoice numbers are readily available on this forum.
