blew out an idler pully doing this vvvvv, but alternator is still good.

in general, I usually just go around anything mud. the pictures and video are just water that's been churned up by the guy in front of me. it's the thicker stuff that'll getcha.

however, by typing that, i've just condemmed myself to have an alternator failure on the next wheeling trip :(

SOrry :(. just wondering because i fried my alternator doing muddy/grainy water. So if your Battery light goes on the alternator is done.

Apply WD-40 to electronics before/after submersion and it will extend the life of them.

I never had my alt go bad and it is caked full of mud and been under water plenty. However my starter died about 3 weeks after I got water in my cab twice in one day. I believe it died due to not spraying it down or cleaning it.

I always have electrical cleaner spray in my toolbox when I go off road. A quick spray on the alternator, battery and stuff with the Engine off gives me ease of mind. Plus its cool to spray at the camp fire.

yep, with a busy schedule, my truck may stay dirty for a week or so after wheeling, but under the hood gets cleaned as soon as I get home.

It used to be in my build...but that is no more :D

I removed my carpet and sealed every crack and crevice with DOW 795 structural silicone. The water flows from under the carpet/door-sill all the times I swamped it so that helps.

Keep all your door seals clean even though they suck.

Every wire harness I could reach inside/outside had dielectric grease applied.

I installed marine plastic dry bags over every wire harness on the interior then sealed with acoustic caulk. Might wanna throw some desiccant in there to ensure no moisture build up over temp changes.

Breather mods and not into my gas cap area...mines in my bed box cause it's harder to get water in there IMO.

For deep water crossing tape your door jambs shut and climb in the cab like the Dukes Of Hazard.

I usually also put someone in the bed of the truck and have my tow straps attached just in case. A few seconds of prep can save your ass if it's real deep.

I put mesh in front of every opening in my bumper so mud, ice, and debris in the water are less likely to enter my engine bay - if it's super deep I would throw a blanket or similar over the grill so water isn't forced into your fan. Fan blades don't like water and can crack sending debris into your rad leaving you FUBAR. An electric fan on a switch would be key for this issue.

    Think that's about it :goingcrazy:

Edit: oh and having my air intake above my cab helps lol

This is the White River near Fayetteville Arkansas. There is a pretty serious dry spell going on up here so the river is really low.
