    All,

I own a 2003 1st gen with 260K miles that I plan on keeping forever. I know all about the 1st gens as I am the original owner of mine.
My neighbor has a pretty strong appreciation for my truck and is impressed with how they are known to be pretty much bullet proof. His wife just bought a new Highlander and absolutely loves it. He is now asking me to help him find a replacement to his Ford 150. He is really leaning towards the Tacoma's. He found a 2010 SR5 DCSB 4.0 auto, has TRD on the bed but I think that might be the decal only, not sure. The frame has been replaced, but I have not seen pictures of the it. If the frame was done years ago it could be rusty again here in Ohio. I told him that is the biggest concern with these Taco's.
My question is to the 2nd gen crowd, are there any specific trouble spots to be aware of? Drive-line issues? Electrical issues? Anything that stands out? Which years are better than others?

Best way to tell if it's a real trd or not is to look for a power outlet in the bed. It should be have a yellow and black cover over it. If it doesnt have the power outlet, it's an sr5 with stickers slapped on the bed.

I recently discovered that 2nd gen Tacos up to 2014 might have a door sil issue causing the door to sound like a kazoo when you it’s windy outside. It’s annoying and it just started with my 2014. It’s an easy fix by changing $100 in door seals but that’s something worth checking at higher speed.

I did a quick check on KBB and $14K was in the range, even with those miles!
