Always best to have someone you trust working to do recoveries. Some people are animals. I doubt you will have anything to worry about from the pull... some recoveries are just not possible straight.

Let me clarify again for the yank crowd: the problem isn't using a strap and yank. the problem i have is the fact i was in park talking to a guy leaning in my passenger window while the idiot in the jeep pulls me while im in park while 4lo and locked. the first couple attempts they were able to pull me out before i slid back in.

You were on snow. Relax. Sounds like a good time.

i do have to agree that it sounds like a lack of communication that lead to a unsafe (to soft humans) situation.

In any case, none of us randos on the internet can tell you if your truck was damaged. We at least need pictures of the damage if any is visible.

I can see being mildly annoyed. Your truck is fine. The surface you were on makes the wheels being locked up not particularly concerning. You just skated out instead of rolling. Was it ideal? Nope. Maybe next time you can find a real isolated place to get stuck. I find the pressure of being properly screwed if things don't work the way you expect adds a certain excitement to a recovery. That moment when you make the call to walk for help because digging is going nowhere. That can't be recreated; it is the divine moment of desperation...

I digress. Your truck is almost certainly fine. I hear your frustration in dealing with other people.

I dont go out actively trying to get stuck, like i said i moved over for more capable rigs instead of being the one stock dude holding everyone up.

Simply look at the bed and bumper gaps. If they are good your frame is good.

right side of the bed seems to be a tad bit more "out" than the left side. but im betting its more of the bed not being true to center from the factory as ive heard about it happening before.

    It's a bone-head move for sure.

But being in park and 4Lo won't have much (if any) more effect on your frame than if you were in neutral 2wd.

I used my first gen truck (with 2.5' lift, all pro leaf springs) for lots of exterior landscaping hauling cement, stone, pavers etc. Most of the landscape supply businesses have guidelines on much load they will put in your truck based on model. I certainly overloaded it with items from the big box store but never hard on the stops at most 1" or so from the stops which is still way over spec.

However one place I went to for pavers had a different policy, they just make you sign the receipt and it says they are not liable. So I purchased a pallet of pavers and I was very apprehensive about the load but they charged ahead and put the pallet in the back, as far forward as possible. The rear end was hard on the stops. I drove home very slowly and tried to slow to a crawl for the smallest bump but it was not really possible. I was kicking myself the whole way home thinking I may pretzel the frame. Luckily it was fine, gap between bed and cab was completely normal.

Reminds me of the videos of Toyotas with a dozen terrorists in the back and bumper is dragging on the ground.

I’m pretty sure you should be okay (disclaimer- I know nothing about what could’ve happened to it. There’s no way I would know about it while sitting here not looking at the truck. I’m just trying to cheer you up like others). It’s probably those jeepers’ first opportunity for a recovery attempt. Every off-roader’s dream is “helping out” stuck vehicle. You were the test subject my friend. They probably talked like they know it all, but most only watched a video. Again, your frame should be just fine. Wink wink.

called a frame shop in my area, dude says it costs $80 to measure by "tape measure and eyeball" and $480 to put it on the frame machine and measure it. does this sound right?

    I’d bet your good OP.
Next time tell the broski No.
I had some guy wanting to pull me put of a ditch in a way where i would have smashed my rear bumper on the ground.
I had to insist repeatedly that he pull me backwards not forwards. It was a little awkward because he was helping out but I wasnt going to risk crushing my plastic rear bumper out of politeness.

Most people dont give a shit if it isnt their property.

listen, i agreed to the strap recovery (and it went well, until i slid back in). but i didn't agree to being yanked with someones head thru my passenger window and in park while still hooked up to a knobhead behind the wheel of the jeep.
which that specific event was the most forceful that i felt.
