So, I’ve been driving my 16 taco for about two weeks now and I took it in yesterday for the 25,000 mile service and they did a system update or whatever and I told them upon bringing it in for service that I noticed it having some hesitation/sluggish behavior. Almost like it was missing. I’ve noticed a bit when I let off gas (say going 30-35mph) and then barely pressing the accelerator and it does the same. The dealership said they couldn’t mimic the situation and they didn’t find any issues.

Any other suggestions or thoughts? The vehicle has 25k on it. Is there a way to do a performance test on it to see what the issue might be? No engine lights have come on.

If it is just me and I need to get used to the Taco, then feel free to say that. I love the truck but want to make sure that I’m not crazy!

    Thanks!

There’s a simple solution for a sluggish truck, mash the gas pedal. Don’t be afraid to get the rpms over 2500

I hear ya but what about when you are on cruise control on the interstate and you feel the sluggishness and hesitation as well? Can’t stomp on the gas all the time lol.

The engine/trans combo is not the best in these trucks, I will say that. They were tuned for better MPG, which means a loss somewhere else. Driving with ECT on does help. I can't say anything about the cruise control because I dont use it often enough. I will confirm that the truck does respond when you get the rpms up, but I guess that does not help you with cruise on. Maybe try with ECT on and see if that makes a difference. Also, there is good reviews for OV Tune, not sure how much you want to spend trying to make it better.

Side note, I dont know what meaning your user name has to you, but it too similar to a former member here that hated his truck. He too had a white TRD Off road. :spy:

Well crap. Haha. I like my truck! I will try the ECT. Gonna have to read up in the OV tune though.

Do you know what ECU version you are on - the original, if AT, was 04B02, there is a TSB that was suppose to fix some of the shifting/dead pedal issues - it will take your ECU to 04B03. They should list this in your paper work and place a sticker under the hood showing the change. There is another TSB for dead pedal/stalling which will revise your ECU to 04B04 - again your service department should do these. Do a search for TSB's on the 3rd Gen page and you should find the thread for these with the symptoms. Print them out , and the symptoms, and go back to your dealer and tell them to update your ECU. TSB's are not 3yr/36K miles - they are EPA/Emission driven and 80K miles limitation for mileage. GL.

Oh yes you can! Also helps to drop a gear right before you stomp it.

There will be a code if any engine parameters are not right. Probably in your mind. Very few engine performance issues can happen without a code. Leaks? Sure but not performance.

You’ll never know. Just like anything else that goes against the grain here, most of the posters couldn’t actually engage in a conversation, and it got locked.

Doesn’t matter what it is, there will always be someone who is butthurt about something. I was actually quite intrigued with some of the findings. I hope it gets unlocked upon the findings and more info.

Same. Especially after his last post.

I will say using any of those third party tools is semi risky anyway. I’ve had tunes on the last 3-4 cars I’ve owned. One of them even required searching and downloading a password generator thing for it. That was a little rough.

As others said, OV Tune is most likely fine. I figure by now someone would have posted something (well I guess that other guy did haha) by now.

My last OV Tune update scared me. I had to install on my work laptop because I needed two usb’s Let’s just say it turn out well. But my other laptop was fine.

Yea the Russian code thing was pretty sketchy, if true. I’m not going to speculate, and I don’t think OV would do anything like that, but it this day and age you just don’t know. It’s possible someone altered the file. Anything is possible really.

I’d rather have someone find something like this and dig into it only to post later, hey I apologize, I was wrong and the coding is legit. Rather than finding out something shady was really going on. Either way I’d like to see the resolution of it all.
