Not sure if this violates the code here, but I have not pulled the trigger for a 2020, or 2021 Tacoma due to the transmission "issue".
Up until yesterday, I thought it's just a learning computer getting confused, a TSB reprogramming, and that after talking to a service guy at a dealer, he said for 2021, the programming would be already the updated one (which was used to correct the problem seen on 2016-2019 models), so, I was pretty happy.

Then, I read that for 2020, even though it's corrected, the random shifting returns and just have to live with it.

Then, someone wrote that for those who experience this, they dont know how to drive....

All the above are ok with me, I am embracing the reality that 1. it is just a personality thing and not a real mechanical defect, and 2. I will "learn" how to drive and co-exist with it.

But another Youtube video yesterday suggested that the owner's 2020 TRD PRO may have solenoid defect.... and her capturing the rough shifting from inside the cabin as well as from the rear bottom, are very very palpable to the viewer. So, here comes the worry and cringe again.

If I was to buy a new rig I would spend some time test driving for an extended period of time.

Take a test drive, stop listening to others. You will go crazy listening to all the different experiences/opinions.

I did test drive, a couple of times, highway, acceleration, but all the test drive were great, I love the truck. I said to the sales guy: hmm, Toyota finally sorted out this problem! But, I heard it creeps up after 5000miles...

Zero problems with the transmission, gearing isn’t the best for the automatic but works fine. Manual transmission is geared perfect.

I drive mine like I stole it and I beat it like a red headed step child. Hasn't failed me yet I have no complaints. If it breaks I fix it. If it needs maintenance I take care of it. When it needs gas I put it in. One of the longest lasting easiest driving vehicles I have ever owned. And this isn't my first!

weekend update: I pulled the trigger! Black out package, TRD offroad, six one bed, JBL. It's just what they have on the lot these days. I also did the number on an army green TRD OR JBL SIX ONE, but didn't like the dealership and don't know if I can always live with the green. I wanted a white truck, nobody has white, so I settled on the black black, can never go wrong although I've had black cars all my life.... picking up tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed there's no transmission problem! So far at test driving no issues (none of the test drive cars has issues).

there is a $995 built in charge when buying this new truck, it's the Toyota exterior and interior protection thing, anti-acid, bid poop, sap etc. I can't opt out, it's already applied. But anyone know what is the nature of this technology? is it ceramic coating (i'm sure not worth $995 but whatever)? can I do my own ceramic on top of it? (the thing is, I will wash the panels first with Chemical Guys deep wash soap that removes all previous wax and coating).

the truck I got is the TRD OR Premium, has the technology package of pre-collission sensor, pedestrian detection, and rear cross traffic alert, but so far, none of these seem to come alive... I wouldn't know they even exists? So far, only lane assist and radar cruise control has been working for me.

everything is negotiable (on normal times), in current times they will not remove it. What are you paying? MSRP? what other add-ons does it have?
