168K is higher than I'd prefer. I have one near me in Phoenix with 150K. I'd be willing to pay for lower miles. I'm considering this one, though the price is a tad high (KBB says more like $18K):

Anyone know if bench seats are possible in these, either factory or aftermarket, without significant fabrication?

Some years the auto came with bucket seats, manual was always a bench. It's pretty well known that the bench seats in these is very uncomfortable. I swapped some Corbeau seats and brackets in mine, made a huge difference! It is bolt in, though if you have airbags in the bench seat, there are some modifications you have to made to trick the airbag system into thinking it is still there.

Deals are out there, though difficult to find nowadays. I bought my 2013 with 75k on it in the 13-14 range, it was listed for 15 minutes and I was the first to show up. I used mine to travel and took it all over Central America, but with all the shutdowns its back to daily driver mode. IMG_20200302_091019 (2).jpg

So, if I got a 2011 (for example) with buckets, it would be possible to swap in a factory bench and keep the airbag stuff happy and all that?

The only reason I'm thinking about this is for the (literally) 0.1% or less of the time that I'm called on to haul both my kids. I have a bench seat in another old pickup and there's something about it I really like anyway.

    EDIT: Here's one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-Seat...ab-Fits-08-14-Toyota-Tacoma-FT13/203131929326

    Not cheap...

i've had my RC for about three and a half years and have put approximately 40,000 miles on it. manual transmission. no complaints or regrets. acceleration is adequate, not brilliant, but gets me into the traffic lane no problem. stock bench seat works fine for me, plenty comfortable. had a regular cab Tundra and F150 and the seat is no better nor worse than either of those.
only changes made have been wheels, tires (back to 245's new wrangler take offs-dirt cheap), bed cover, and intermittent wiper stalk. if you accept the truck for what it is, it flat works.

Since they’re a dealer they’re going to charge you tax and dealer fees and such.

Having said that the shell is worth probably $1300 if you wanted to sell it...

I think msrp on our trucks was around $20k. I would feel silly paying significantly more than that even with very low miles. Not that it helps but I paid 19k for mine with 40k miles (precovid in California).

Toyota has made this same 4 cylinder motor for over 2 decades. There is no major maintenance on it other than fluid changes, and with that these motors are very reliable. The price may be alittle high, though in this market I'm not sure how unreasonable it actually is.

I test drove my 2013, 2.7, 4X4, auto., appx 10 mi. & thought it's no power house but it will be fine. Now wish I'd driven it far enough to realize how weak it really is. Bought it & within a week was very disappointed with the drivability. Constantly shifting up & down at any sight if a hill, or even a slight upgrade. I would suggest a longer test drive than I took. 2.7 MT would be a much better option. On the positive side, the 2.7 auto. will get you there & back, but that's about the best I can say for them. Just my opinion

You'll probably want to add some lift, bigger tires and then find some maintenance stuff so you might be at $18-20K really quick. So if you can find something with lower miles and some of the stuff you would want, that may be better in the long run. Prices on everything seem to be up a bit so it's really tough to figure out what might be an ok deal.

Yeah, I'm willing to pay for lower miles for sure, but this is it "locally" (2 hour drive). The low miles ones are far away, like fly there and pick it up, or pay for transport. In those case I can't really see it in person until I'm committed either.

I want to keep it totally daily driver-able, but I was thinking of probably a 2" lift and slightly bigger tires. That's a fixed cost regardless of what I start from.

Jesus, the RC's pricing is getting crazy. i bought mine in July 2017 with just under 12,000 miles on it, gave $16500. knew the guy that owned the Ford dealership where it was traded in. he knocked over $2k off their asking price.

Yep. People want the reliability of an older model Tacoma, and the choice of body styles that you can't get anymore. Plus, they don't want a $40 - $50,000 or more, truck payment .

    That's what I think anyway

Yup I prefer the RC since I don't need to spend more for space I won't use

i think thats the low end on a new truck anymore. i see lifted, 20" wheel equipped, leather, sunroof optioned out full size 4X4 domestic trucks all over in my subdivision and the ones around me. i cringe at the payment on those rigs. and Wranglers...a whole different level. there's a small exclusive performance shop in a effluent, high dollar city near my house. $150K+ come out of there as finished projects, mostly for kids of rich parents. the topper though is a Late model F350 Super Duty 4X4 4 door 6.7 PowerStroke converted into an Excursion. the fab work was not the best so dad had the body redone by another shop. motor work, big lift, mac daddy full custom leather interior, custom paint, etc. it was in the shop one day and the dad was talking to the owner. i struck up a conversation with the owner (built for son) and he stated he stopped counting at......$500K!!!
