pGreetings all, new here so please forgive me if I am posting this in the wrong place. I am looking at buying a 15’ Trd Sport. Interior is clean, exterior wonderful, but asked the dealer for photos of the undercarriage before I drive 3 hours to look at it. Doesn't look bad for an 8 yr old rust belt car. But with all the frame recall stuff I have read, I thought I would ask the community their opinion. The truck has 54k on it, one owner, 6 spd manny with the 4.0. They want 29k for it.

Please take a look at these pics and let me know your thoughts.

not bad, might have had the frame replaced already. inside of the frame on the last pic is very clean looking and treated
needs Fluid Film or Wool Wax ASAP
the shackal in the first pic looks kind of crusty

Yeah I tend to agree. And was also wondering about the shininess of the frame. I called the dealer where it was originally purchased and they said the CRC recall was done on it. Does that mean the frame already had bad rust issues at the time?

It had the wax campaign done, thats the white goop you see in the last photo along the frame seams.

It's done properly and is the major prevention of rust, they sprayed it all inside the channels where you cant see.

    It's 100% good to go.

It also has a frame warranty extension on it that should last about 9 more years. So don't fret buying this truck.

I’m impressed lol. How do you know all that? As for the other parts of the truck, the leaf spring brackets/mounts aren’t concerning?

Most people here are knowledgeable and I think bishop84 may work at a Toyota dealer.

That little bit of surface rust isn’t a concern at all. I’d be coating it with rust check/fluid film/rust cure etc if I bought it though to keep it from spreading over the years.

Right, exactly. I’ll gladly give them my money for the truck, so long as its not going to result in an expensive and costly nightmare-inducing systemic issue. I do plan to clean, brush paint and FF whatever I can reach and keep that going since i live in CT.

that’s a good plan. I can tell you I live on the east coast of Canada and after 4 years my exhaust flanges on my tundra don’t look as clean as those ones. Can’t rust proof a hot exhaust like I do the rest of the metal under the truck.
The rust in your picture looks like it’s mostly on the welds of the frame, which is very common on a bare Toyota frame.

    Just some stuff...
Looks pretty nice. Curious about that skid plate or is that just from the rust proofing?

--What he said ^^ looks good to me as well.

Side note: If the metal front engine splash shield has a lot of light surface rust on it, I recommend scrubbing it with a wire brush, and washing it with dawn dish soap to get any oil or grease off. I then painted it with Krylon bedliner paint and it came out looking fantastic, all for $11.
