i was thinking of getting a tailgate skin, but after installing this i see no need at all. it is so solid and the extra bend give me full confidence that it will hold up very well.

    Precisely.

If you take a flat sheet of 14 gauge steel cut to the same size as our tailgates, and set it on a sawhorse so that it balances in the center of the sheet, you'll see that it won't even support itself. It's like a wet noodle.

That being said...how much strength does a tailgate "skin" add?

    The answer.....NOT MUCH, if anything.

I could easily whip up a design for a skin, and sell them, and make money.....but why??

I refuse to make a product that I don't believe in just for money.

    Doesn't hurt to ask.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
Got the tail gate cap last Friday and today was the first chance to put it on. I thought I had the weather stipping stuff up high enough but nope. I'll have to get more a redo. Other than that all looks good. Got the old plastic one off without breaking any tabs for what it's worth. Wrote my name and VIN inside the tailgate with a sharpie in case I buy it back some day. I do have the hose clamp mod working. Had to tap the new cover on with a hammer. Snug fit.

For those of you that have installed with a Leer cap have you had any issues with fit? I saw OZ-T moved his cap back a little; any issues with water leaking in heavy rain?

I also have a Bedrug installed. Does anyone have any experience with this? Did you remove the spacers provided by Bedrug when installing this as I imagine it is much tighter?
