Power drain?

Alright so I was tuning my sub amp last night and I noticed that my actual dash lights were starting to dim once I turned it up to a certain point, any suggestions on to what I need to do to remedy it?

 

Depending how much power you're running, that's expected. But to really fix the problem, or fix it as much as possible, you'd need to run more than one battery.

 

That is what I was thinking, I guess I could run one in the truck bed.

 

If your draw is exceeding the output of the alternator, it will pull battery voltage down.

Dual batteries will help, but if the alternator can't catch up, it's still only a matter of time before you're dead.

But the hearing loss isn't the worst part.
I can deal with having only one ear that doesn't work at high frequencies.

The worst part is the ringing.

Tune your radio to a station that's only static.
Turn it up to the level of normal conversation.
Live with that 24/7. Sometimes louder, sometimes softer, but always there, even while trying to sleep.
Now when someone pops a beer can within 3ft of your ear, or a waitress "clicks" two plates together... it feels like an icepick being shoved into your ear.

 

I think there's a battery tray available to hold 2 batteries under the hood....anyway, with a little fandangaling I think you can fit 2 under the hood

 

I am not one of those guys that goes around listening to it at its loudest all the time, I actually wear noise canceling headphones when I tune the amps and then play it for a couple seconds with them off to see where I am at. I take quite a few precautions when it comes to my hearing.

 

What is the amp and what sub?

 

If t cant put out a lighters flame in the front seat, it's not loud enough and no cheating with port air

Optima apparently sucks now, I'd go with one big ass kinetic and be done with it, voltage drop is inevitable.

 

Oh and subs don't drop in voltage, batteries do....

 

Oh yeah....I forgot we wired those things to make a ton of power lol

Do you have the towing package? If not, I'd look at getting the larger alternator. That's a real solution and not a bandaid. A second battery would also be a plus.

I've also heard that the newer Optimas aren't as good as the older ones. I'm inadvertently testing this myself because I bought a yellow top in July.

 

I heard the sears diehard batteries are the way to go since optima are somewhat going downhill. I guess I will need to look into alternator options.

 

The OEM towing package alternator should be plenty.

I stand corrected Kinetic batteries are rated better than optima. I agree alternator wont do anything but charge your battery faster. Here are some reviews.

My brother has three batteries and a high output alternator. I dont have a picture of the third battery though. But I don't think your running as much power as him though
