This forum kills me sometimes. If you hate the truck, trade it in or sell it and move the hell on. As for me, a lack of power seats did not deter me from purchasing the truck. You want lack of tech, go drive a 2018 TRD OR 4-Runner. I felt like I was back in the 90's. Great vehicle, but the Tacoma beat it hands down on tech and features. If enough people show their opinion with their wallet, Toyota will change. Until then, I am fine with my manual seats. Would have been nice to have Apple Car Play though.

Yeah but that's just part of the story. Tell the kids WHY the Pinto sold 500K units lol.
It's because in late 1973 oil prices per barrel quadrupled! That would be like us going from $70 a barrel today to $280 a barrel.
Prices at the pump doubled for a gallon and many stations had no gas to sell. People waiting to buy gas were in line for hours, if they could find it.
THAT'S why Ford sold that many Pintos.
Oh the Pinto had around 80hp and got... 20 mpg.

It wasn't because people wanted the Pinto.

Lol, the last brick and mortar wallmart shut down in 2036...

Sale of PTV's (personal transport vehicles) stopped in 2047...

Hawking teleporters became "a thing" in 2053....

Polyester leisure suits did make a comeback though...

Only benefit of power seats is multiple drivers, valet, mechanic etc. Seeing as it's only me driving, I prefer stuff that doesn't break. Btw

Toyota, if you're listening. Release a model with no TSS, manual windows, manual seats, manual locking hubs, front locker. Bonus points if the radio is single din (just need bluetooth) with enough room to install a CB radio.

Don't know about that, but our species "instinct for survival" is second to none on the planet, imo.

Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings....

We are already heading that way lol. Personal mobility devices, fat, self driving cars, no manual labor, many more robots, etc.

    You've been around though....

Seriously? Your trying to compare sales numbers witht a car that had an 8 year lifecycle to the Tacoma and lack of power seats? o_O

You are right haha. But, I was born in the early 60s. I lived through the 70s and was an adult by 80s. How life was then and how it is now is totally different. Like apples and oranges. The absolute biggest change is personal responsibility.

Most of the guys on here complaining about it are probably wanting the benefit of increased adjustability

I am a similar age, and was fortunate enough to have been raised by my grandparents, both born in the 19th century.

Since no one else was interested, they decided to "spill the beans" about growing up in the NYC slums.....you want to talk about life being apples to oranges....I have a slightly different (somewhat theirs) perspective.

Spoiler alert about where we are headed....the Humans prevail.

    Cheers.

Understood. I grew up with my grandparents on a farm. I was the kid who got the eggs and slopped the hogs before walking down off the mountain to catch the bus. My perspective is probably skewed as well.

Well In 1974 my parents weren’t even driving, so I don’t know everyone’s reasons for buying a Pinto. The oil crisis didn’t start until ‘73 and the Pinto was designed in the late 60’s. So the increase in sales for 74 I can understand, but it still sold well before that. Regardless no one stuck a gun to anyones heads and said they had to buy a Pinto. Understandably there wasn’t the selection that we have today, but they still had other options. I think given the time period and other considerations the Pinto sold pretty well. I’ve cracked a few Pinto jokes before and one guy told me his Pinto was the best car he’s ever owned. Obviously we all know a few people lost their lives in a Pinto, sadly. There are people (A bunch here) that will say a Tacoma is the best vehicle they ever owned. There is also a complete opposite end of that spectrum. Look how many people were plagued with rotted frames. Also think how many would of been effected if they lived in areas where they got 6’ of snow or more a year. Lots of unhappy Tacoma owners over the years as well.

Anyway my point being you guys think the Tacoma is some sales beast. Truth is the numbers really aren’t great. This is why over the course of 26 years have only been 3 generations of Tacoma. Also why Ford and GM pulled out of the segment. It’s just now heating back up. The market went from large fullsized trucks and fullsized SUV, to crossovers and smaller more efficient vehicles, back now to mid-size suv’s and fullsized trucks. The midsized truck segment is now opening up because it’s basically giving buyers about the same interior space and fuel efficiency of a SUV with the added benefit of a bed for hauling things. While most millennial’s can fit an ikea couch that’s not put together in a SUV, they can’t move it in one after it’s been put together. Lots of people buy fullsized trucks, however a midsized will do just about everything they need it to. The market dictates everything. This is why Ford and other manufacturers are pulling away from small and midsized cars. Before I left the autogroup I was working for they did project all sales to drop over the next couple of years. Didn’t happen last year like it was forecasted but I’m sure it will soon. The tire plant I work for currently, their main focus is on SUV and light duty truck tires. Right in line with current market. We also make Semi/Bus tires which have more of a need for the Brazilian market, and motorcycle tires, which there isn’t a strong demand currently. Tacoma sales will continue to climb, as long as the market allows. However I think you number watchers will be surprised shortly when a few more options enter the mix.

Sounds like we were both "fortunate".

Such a large percentage of US Natives born after WWII have had so much "just handed to them", and it's not anybody's fault. Just good fortune.

Sometimes my head hurts just seeing all the riches I have around me.

As Timothy Cratchit said in the novel....

    "God bless us, every one!"

On that note, gotta go spend some time with the family....
