So I have an automatic 1998 Tacoma, Limited Edition. It has overdrive and a power/normal ect button. I’m familiar with overdrive but I’ve been too afraid to press the power button. I had a rebuilt engine put in it 1700 miles ago after the head gasket blew and just got all the fluids done today (tranny, power steering, 4x4, coolant, oil, etc) the truck itself and tranny has 264xxx miles on it, but the new engine has ~1700. I really want to see the difference for myself but I’m too afraid the power button could kill my tranny due to it being so old... Please let me know if I’m just being paranoid or not! Thanks in advance!!!

It just raises the shift points a little. It wont hurt it to use it.

The most expensive free membership you'll ever have. You will be tempted to do modifications to you truck. It starts small little things. Next thing you know...........$$
You're putting a supercharger and a lift kit on it.

Exactly as mentioned before. It holds a gear longer so it feels like more power. Great for hauling heavy loads, towing or just going up long steep grades.

I have to pull long continuous hills where I live and I plan to haul things like soil and my YXZ in the near future so this will be very helpful!

Meh, it doesn’t hurt. Maybe it does something, maybe it doesn’t. I feel like I can notice the difference, but I don’t really worry about it.

Its Toyota's version of a tow/haul mode. Just changes the shifting points for the transmission. I leave mine on most of the time, I get better MPGs with it. Only thing to be cautious of is if it's on and you're on a two lane highway getting ready to pass somebody. The engine isn't going to respond as quickly to get you around the other vehicle and back in your lane.

I think it acts differently between generations. I've seen a kit for the 2nd Gens to keep it permanently on.

Why do you need a kit? You push the button and it's on. Period. You want it off? Hit the button again.
