B307FDE0-BBE7-4141-B195-725ED07F5F04.jpg Hey guys, i bought my 3rd gen about 2 months ago and It reads my key (push start) but my key fob wont work. As soon as I turn my truck off, all power goes away instantly. I am thinking its the computer maybe, because i've changed the battery in my key fob and it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

Also i'm new here! I've owned 2 tacomas now, a 02 and now a 17. best trucks of all time. A1E3F34C-CF66-4DDB-A591-B36D20E864B8.jpg

Did you buy the truck new or used? Has this always happened or just started? Any electrical mods?

So when you try to unlock or lock the doors, it will not work by touching the outside driver handle or pushing the button, is that correct?

i bought it used, but its in really good shape. no electrical mods on it. this has happened since i bought it, but the owner thought the key fob was just dead. when its off, theres no power output for my doors, outside, lighting, or anything.

Since there are no electrical mods you should have warranty, depending on mileage and first date of purchase.

Depending on how many miles your truck has, it may still be under warranty.. i would take to the dealership to get it fixed for free..
Nice truck and welcome to TW...

There are instructions in the manual for a key FOB that's acting up. Something about holding it next to the PTS button and sacrificing a goat, but I don't know which order. It's there in case the battery in your FOB does die but you still need to, you know, drive somewhere. Technology, man, technology.

    Welcome!

It does sound like you may have some gremlins running around in there. Dealer would be my first choice if there’s no modifications to the electrical system.

Could this be a relay or fuse issue? Also a loose cable? I would start looking at those areas since you have changed the batteries in the FOB and truck unless you still have warranty left then let the dealer sort it out.

They key fob can be turned off to where the door handle will not open by touch. I don't know how to do it, but I have heard others talk about doing it when they wash their truck to save the battery!

If I recall correctly, pushing any button on the fob should wake it back up though. I will see if I can find that in the manual.

If you have under 36,000 Miles it is covered under the Factory Warranty.

OP, do you have two fobs and if so does it do the same with each one?
Also, when parking the truck and you push the button to kill it, without opening any door, can you still operate the windows? There should be a delay until you open a door, then the reserve power cuts out.
