I have a 2001 Tacoma and yesterday I noticed that only when locking the truck I hear a sort of grinding noise when the driver door locks, it's a pretty load noise, it can be heard inside and out of the truck. Has anyone had this problem or a fix for it?

I haven't had this problem on a tacoma (or toyota for that matter) but.... My mother-in-law owns a 99 Grand Cherokee and her doors made nasty sounds too. It ended up being bad door lock mechanisms. Three of her door-lock mechanisms went to shit in a 3 month period.

I would change the door lock actuator. I have seen this many times because i am a tech at a toyota dealership. You have to take off the door panel and disconnect the rods for the door handles inside and out. There should be three torx screws you remove from the door where the latch is. you should see them when you open the door. The whole lock mechanism can then be removed with the window up. The actuator will seperate from the lock by removing a couple screws. Hope this helps! Let me know if you need more help.

I would recomend only getting it from the dealership because aftermarket parts are cheap and you get what you pay for. Not sure about the price but i can check on it tommorow when i am at work.

actuator runs about $100 - 120 depending on the parts mark up at the dealeship. Every place is a little different

Every toyota dealership tells me i need to buy the entire locking mechanism which is well over $300....until it breaks i dont think the buzzing sound is worth more than $300
