has anyone installed power locks or power windows on their trucks?
My truck is all manual and next week I'm gonna order some pop up locks because I'm getting an alarm, but I wanted to see if any of you guys have done it to your trucks?

I just finished doing a full retrofit on my all manual truck. Link is in my signature.

I found a 2004 parts truck and took the OEM lock actuators, window regulators, power mirrors, and complete uncut door harnesses. I also went behind the kick panels and cut the connectors so I have wiring pigtails to solder to.

This is all of course if you want your setup to be OEM, if you went aftermarket universal components it would be a lot cheaper, but difficult to adapt to the doors.

It's all controlled by an aftermarket keyless entry module, a couple 30/40 Amp SPDT relays, and a fuse block. This system completely bypasses the factory integration module or RS3000 security.

Actually it would be easier to use the OEM components since for the most part it's ALL bolt on. The only hard part is creating the Wiring Harness and electrical control system to control and adapt the components.

Jesus Christ that's ridiculous. They sell universal kits for like 50 dollars. That shop would've probably used the same product too.

no but I just changed the control switch for mine...I guess after 17yrs of use the contacts corroded enough to not work anymore.

Yeah exactly! I was like wtf. And then I showed the guy the alarm I wanted (which was $80 from Amazon) and they had in their shop going for $180 lmao I was like damn these people are crazy.
But they're gonna charge me $120 to install the alarm and add the power locks so I think that's a fair price.

Unless you want to spend upwards of $2,000 for all the OEM components brand new, I recommend finding a parts truck. I spent about $400 ($300 on Door components, $100 on wires, relays, and other components) in total. You just have to hunt around.

    Yeah that's true.
I wanted to see how the switch for the power window or power locks look on the door panels.

I was going to go down the same route as you with the aftermarket power window retrofit kits, and lock actuators. I did some more research and I found out they aren't very reliable, powerful enough, or work very good. It's also a little difficult to install and adapt to fit the doors.

Yeah I figured too. But I think Ima just get the pop up locks for my truck. Just for now with the alarm.
Until I start looking around for another tacoma truck with power windows so I can just take them and install them in my truck

There's some good wiring diagrams and schematics on my retrofit build thread if you need to figure out the wiring. Shouldn't be that difficult.

I was thinking you could use 4Runner parts to do the retrofit. They're more common than Tacomas and they bolt up for the most part. I used a window regulator from one when mine broke. I don't know if all of it is bolt on but it's an option. It just has different wiring.

Don't know if everything is bolt on, but the window regulators were. For the most part a significant majority of 3rd generation 4Runner parts are directly compatible with the 1st gen Tacoma.

I found a place in Cali online..."Rancho Toyota recycling" they'll have everything your looking for. I got the interior door panels from them, I got the door switches from EBay, I got the wiring harnesses from a guy on here, the window actuators from A1 auto and the power mirrors from Amazon and I stopped there when I found out it wasn't going to be plug and play. I still need the lock actuators. My understanding of electricity is about the same as Chinese. I will attempt it one day or I just may shop around and bite the bullet and pay the money.

It's not that bad. I have the schematic laid out so it's as simple as creating the wiring harnesses.

    IMG_0590.jpg IMG_0538.jpg

    * I wrote 1998 on the door lock system, but is uses 2004 components. I have a '98.

    * A dot along the wiring schematic indicates a splice or junction point.

    * For more details check out my build thread linked in my signature.

Thanks Tyler! I'll be using this when time is due to git 'er done!
