    I have the following Tacoma:

    2016 Tacoma Double Cab w/ 2.7 4 cylinder engine, Auto, 70,000 miles

I'm experiencing a loss of power at highway speeds. When I place my truck either in Park or Neutral, my truck will rev up to 3k or 4k rpm and hang for a while until breaking loose. I believe this is the cause of my loss of power at highway speeds. I took my truck to the dealership and they told me it was my MAF sensor. They replaced the sensor and I'm still having the issues. I posted two videos of the problem below. Has anyone had this problem or know what it is?

I thought I read that in neutral or park the RPM's were limited and wouldn't allow it to redline. I could be wrong, though.. What do you mean a loss of power at highway speeds?

I'm experiencing loss of power at highway speeds on top of the rpm problems during Park and Nuetral. I believe they're connected since at highway speeds, the rpms are not allowed to increase.

Pretty sure it’s capped in neutral and park by the ecu and will force the revs down before shifting to drive to protect the drivetrain so you can’t neutral bomb it

If there is a vacuum leak I would imagine there'd be a fault for it.. Cars nowadays are so sensitive to mixture issues due to emissions regulations even the slightest vacuum/ intake leak can trigger a fault. The OP said the MAF was replaced.. I wonder if it was an air to fuel fault they were chasing, or just throwing parts at it. I've never driven a 4 cylinder 3rd gen but I can't imagine it wouldn't feel very peppy at highway speeds since the 3.5 needs to wind out a bit.. Again, not knocking the OP's truck, or the 2.7....

I thought that too but it doesn't do it every time. It randomly does it. Once I start experiencing a loss of power on the highway I pull over and the RPM revving problem occurs.

Did you request to drive a comparable truck? I'm a service advisor for BMW and when I get drivability issues that are "normal", I plate up another car for the customer to drive back to back. Again, not saying yours is normal, but it's worth a shot.

Whet happens on the highway? Does it just shut down or what? Loss of power is pretty vague. Does it happen consistently? Is it repeatable?

Yeah I understand. I don't expect it to be peppy but when the loss of power occurs, I literally have to mat the pedal to the floor to keep it at 70.

I have to keep the pedal to the floor to keep it at 70 on the highway. It didn't used to do that when I first bought the truck.

I see.. My suggestion still stands.. Ask the dealer to drive another truck like it. See how it performs.. Again, this is if it is consistent and you're able to replicate it.

Sorry if you mentioned, is this a new vehicle to you or did this just start behaving this way? I’m not much help just looking for clarification.

No, I've had it since new. The truck now has 70k miles. This just started happening with the loss of power and rpm issues since 2 months ago.

Weird. Maybe disconnect the battery for a while and see what happens. Maybe ecu is just confused.

Do any mods lately? Namely larger and heavier tires? A lift? Big rack?
