I had recently installed a Hypertech Speedometer Calibrator. Worked great for about six weeks but then the speedo, odo, and cruise control went out. CEL and VSC lights came on. Had a auto repair shop (not parts store) scan it. Said all sensors are fine, most likely a short, loose or broken wire in the instrument cluster. Dug around back there and couldn't find anything loose or broken. Removed the Calibrator, put everything back together, and problem solved.
When I removed the Calibrator I noticed it was warm. Not super warm but definitely warm. The truck had been sitting in the garage all night and hadn't even been turned on. After it had been removed it did cool down to what you'd expect from inert plastic. So I assume there had been a slight current running through it.
Should that be happening with the truck shut off?
    Thanks for any advice!

In short no, sounds like a problem with your calibrator unit.
The cluster does have a full time battery feed via the ECU-B fuse so if your unit was shorted or drawing current that would explain it getting warm with the truck off.
