You and I both know that anything listed will be brushed off as “oh that’s not important to me” in the same way that I could say that a power rear slider offers me zero benefit (have never used my rear slider except to crawl in when my keys were locked in).

the benefits of a 4g vs 3g are individual. If I listed LED headlights, many here would just say “I see fine with my third gen lights!” Or as one poster said without irony a while back, “I’m too old to drive at night because I can’t see so why would LEDs appeal to me?”

if I said more usable power and torque, someone would post a picture of themselves towing with a third gen saying “it’s fine to me!”

If I listed multi link rear suspension, someone would chime in and say “leaf springs have worked great for my third gen!”

if I said far better suspension and bigger rolling stock, someone would just say “but there are lift kits and the stock wranglers got me through hells gate in my third gen.”

if I said rear disc brakes, you get the idea.

That’s why it’s got me considering other trucks. It’s no longer a good bang for buck like Toyota was before. Few thousand more and you could get a ranger raptor or AT4x

A few thousand more than an OR premium, yes. A few thousand more than a base OR, no. So at that point, you’re paying a few thousand more for a similar option set plus some power and torque (while losing towing capacity vs the Tacoma). Seems like the Tacoma is pretty competitive.

If you look into the details it’s not. The AT4x is a direct competitor to the 2024 TRD pro. Like the raptor. 55k for a premium trd or plus whatever the hybrid option is and still no boutique suspension like the pro,Chevy/gmc or ford. The others are 56-57.

Several in my area now. Only 1 is marked up. this also is my issue with the pro. I realistically won’t be able to get one for a year or so

2.5 Billies with piggybacks are pretty deece. But sure, spend a bit more and get a bit more. Other features and options seem pretty on the margins (front locker vs swaybar disco, digital rear view vs trailer backup assist, etc)

I have, I’m very familiar with the process. This isn’t about the pro but my point is the lack of value in a premium OR which comes with the rear window. For the same price you can get a fully loaded TRD pro type truck.

I’m just stating facts. I’m not a Toyota hater, I’m realistic. I still have my Tacoma as well.

Basically yep. I’ve driven both recently. The gmc also has a digital rear view.

You just made my point. You just named a bunch of things that have ZERO practical implications on the use of the truck. Payload is roughly the same; towing capacity is roughly the same. Discs and drums both work. Compare that to not having a rear pass-through.

You can order a gmc at4x that comes loaded and is a direct TRD Pro competitor. It’s 56k

premium trd or with sbd is 55 and change. This is my point. A trd pro caliber truck for less then a few k more.
I’ll let you do your own research from here.

Manual seats work just as well as power seats, though

having had a slider, I’ve literally never used it for a reason that the 3g power slider would help (can’t open it when keys are locked in). It has no practicality for me.

I use my rear slider weekly for long stock materials (20' PVC pipe, PVC trim boards, LVL's, long lumber, etc.. Comes in VERY handy) Yes, I need a longer bed next round. With the release, it will not be this current Tacoma for the price, I will be in a full-size for the price.

Do you have a 4th gen or work for toyota to defend this current release, I ask because 2250 posts in two weeks.

This is my point to the guy I was talking to. Sounds like the rear slider is something you’ll use, so you see it as valuable. Similarly, I see the power, torque, suspension, shocks, lighting, disc brakes as a valuable upgrade.

and it’s 2250 posts in more than 3 years, not two weeks

Wait till they start saying "for these prices I would just get a full size"... Going from a 50k truck to a 60k truck like it isn't a big deal. But complain about the base 6ft dbl cab OR going from 42k to 45k like its a crime against humanity. I have yet to hear a logical response when brining up the number of improvements vs the loss of the window and power seats.

My truck tows fine, more power and torque don’t matter because the tow rating stays the same!!!!

I tow my race car with this, which has 185hp/350lb-ft but a GCWR of 18,000lbs. I wonder if my towing experience would be better with a new f250 with 500hp/1200lb-ft. But nah, there are no objective improvements

An old used ambulance, no idea that had that kind of towing capacity? You are onto something, these things and fire trucks are worth shit used and still have a lot of useable life left! We sell ours (fire trucks) typically to a local large excavation / paving company. They refurbish them in there shop and get years out of the chasis.

It kicks ass, to be honest. Even got to keep the 5000w inverter. I run the microwave and coffee pot off the batteries in the morning

Thanks, man. I love it. I’m all for the disagreement, but it’s silly to pretend that the 2024 truck has no advantages over the 2023 truck.

I'm not sure who, certainly not me, has told you there are no advantages to the 4th gen. This being TW, that sounds completely plausible though.
